Fairboard held its monthly meeting on Wednesday 1/4

The Fairboard held its monthly meeting on Wednesday and it looks like the dust has settled and with all empty seats filled the Board is back on track. At this month’s meeting, 9 board members were present, Vize President Zumbrink as well as Jason Manning did not attend the meeting.

The President of the Darke County Harness Horsemen’s Association, Tim Reck, informed the Board that the stalls have been checked and that 42 stalls need repairs. He also suggested to put rubber mats down in all stalls, since this would bring the costs for repairs down in the future. 77 stalls have already these rubber mats and only one of these stalls needs minor repairs.

Brian Rismiller, one of the new Board members and Tim Reck will work together to get quotes for rubber mats.

Treasurer Marla Werner informed the Board and the attendants of the meeting that the committee for the capital improvement grant meets on a regular basis but hasn’t made any decisions yet. They are looking at different plans and ideas and will come up with a solution that will take care of what’s needed most.

Fair Manager Laura Ahrens reported that one of the 2 main water lines of the fair (the one coming off Martz Street) froze, resulting in a major water leak in the fair’s “hot box”. Fortunately just a part of the unit busted and they found a replacement part for about $1,100 (if the whole unit would have been busted, the bill would have been 20K higher).

Ahrens also announced the new heads of the departments.
