Florene Louise Burns, age 87, of Greenville died at 3:20 am Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Ayden Healthcare of Piqua. Florene was born on October 4, 1934, in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, to the late Clyde Edmund Bowser and Iness Marie Walls.
Florene graduated from Brown High School of Conover, Ohio, in 1952. She married John Elwood Burns on August 5, 1952. John served in the U.S. Air Force and while stationed in Utah, Florene and John joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1958. Florene was very active in family history, genealogy, and other church callings.
Florene studied nursing at Dayton School of Practical Nursing in about 1968. Later, she and John moved to Sidney to run Shelby County Children’s Home. After the children came, Florene and John moved to Greenville where they lived out their lives.
In addition to her parents, Florene is also preceded in death by her husband, John; a son, Matthew John Burns; and a brother, Eldon Lee Bowser.
Florene is survived by her daughter, Heather Stump of Greenville; a son, Mark Burns of Greenville; grandchildren, Anastacia Baker (Christopher) of Arcanum, Octavia Reier of Greenville, and Kara Reier of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Swayze, Baylee, Wyatt, Nova, and Riley. Florene is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Harvey (John) of Texas, and Judy Robertson (Bill) of Kentucky, and a brother, Art Bowser (Gay) of Conover, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 21, 2022, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with President Jeff Yantis presiding. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
