Gary “Putty” Poling, 83 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 4:45 PM at his residence. He was born August 23, 1938 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Lloyd E. and Mary F. (Huber) Poling. Gary served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963.
Gary worked as a meat cutter at Grilliots IGA in Versailles, and then he went on to work at Precision Drill and Reamer in Tipp City before becoming the co-owner of Expert Regrind Service in Versailles.
Gary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Versailles, Versailles American Legion, Moose Lodge, and the Covington AmVets. Gary loved woodworking, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, golfing, playing cards, bowling and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his great granddaughter: Violet Buchan, his brothers and sister in law: John and Janet Poling, and Ronnie Poling; his father in law and mother in law: Francis “Buckles” and Florence Treon; and his sister in law and brother in law: Phyllis and Edgar Collins.
Gary is survived by his wife Carolyn (Treon) Poling of Versailles whom he married May 21, 1960, his children and spouses: Michael and Tammy Poling of Versailles, and Lisa and Charles Grillot of Fort Loramie; his grandchildren: Jami and Ned Buchan, Joseph Poling, Jonathon Poling and friend Kierra, Jacob Poling and friend Courtney, Andrew Streib, Jason Streib and friend Caity, and Kaitlyn Grillot; his step grandchildren: Eric and Heather Grillot, Ryan and Lauren Grillot, and Kyle and Tracey Grillot; his great granddaughter: Isla Buchan; his sister in law: Miriam Poling; his brother in law and sister in law: Kent and Tammy Treon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Pastor Bob Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday December 22, 2021 and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. Veteran’s graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church.
