Gerald “Jerry” C. Onkst, 81 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away early Friday morning, February 18, 2022, at Aventura at Shiloh Springs in Trotwood, Ohio.
He was born on October 28, 1940, in Greenville, to the late Melvin and Neva (Wagner) Onkst.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Onkst; and his sisters-in-law, Pat Onkst and Margie Onkst.
Jerry graduated from Greenville High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. He was a prolific club member, belonging to the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Moose, Elks, Eagles, and Masonic Lodges. He and Patty loved going to all the clubs, socializing with their friends, and they enjoyed traveling. Jerry’s favorite pastimes were watching boxing, spending hours and hours putting together jigsaw puzzles, and teasing his nieces and nephews.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia “Patty” Ann (Nill) Onkst, whom he married on August 29, 1964; his brothers, Chris (Linda) Onkst of Greenville, and Bob Onkst of Indianapolis, Indiana; and his sister, Beverly Lease of Greenville; and his nieces and nephews, Rex, Tammy, Sandy Patrick, John, Jamie, and Julie.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.
His family will be receiving guests on Saturday, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
