GPL celebrates National Poetry Month

GREENVILLE – In honor of National Poetry Month, Greenville Public Library is hosting three events to celebrate!

The first is Pocket Poems. These free poems can be found on the first floor across from the Circulation Desk. Rolled up as a convenient scroll, each poem is a mystery, with a variety of authors and styles available for adults and kids from April 1st through 30th.

Our second event will be our first annual poetry contest. Open to all ages, this competition will allow you to flex your creative muscle and show off your rhythm and flow. All forms of poetry are welcome! All entries must be received no later than Wednesday, April 30. There is a limit of one submission per person, so be sure to give us your best!

Submissions can be dropped off at the library or emailed to gplstaff3915@gmail.com with the subject line, ‘2025 Poetry Contest.’

Our third event, Black Out Poetry, will take place on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. Join us as we use book pages and markers to create poems by marking out the unwanted words, leaving behind a unique masterpiece! All materials will be provided for this free event.
