GREENVILLE— Several public service entities met today to discuss safety for the Great Darke County Fair, which will open its doors on Friday, August 19, 2022 and offers a lot of fun, information, events and -of course- fair food until August 27, 2022
Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker, Owner of Spirit EMS Brian Hathaway, Darke County Health Commissioner Dr. Terrence Holeman and Darke County Fair Board member Jim Zumbrink informed about safety.
Sheriff Whittaker mentioned that the safety committee meets each year before and after the fair to discuss how best to serve the community especially in regard of the safety aspect of the fair, and that there are public emergency services on the ground during for the entire fair’
including law enforcement, EMS and the Fire units, which makes this a safe fair. Sheriff Whittaker says that everybody is prepared for whatever might happen.
Sheriff Whittaker also promoted the “Code Red App” that can be downloaded. That’s the app, Darke County uses to get out emergency notifications and information to the public and if there would be such an event, the visitors of the Great Darke County Fair could receive those notifications right away and act accordingly. The app is free to download on your iPhone or Android.
Brian Hathaway (Spirit EMS) said that they’ll make sure that this will be a safe fair, urged people to stay hydrated especially with the weather being warm and assured that they cover the fair for any needs, from a needed band-aid to more serious cases.
Dr. Holeman added that the Health Department will have inspectors out there on a daily basis.
Sheriff Whittaker also informed that the traffic plan will be the same as in previous years.
