Greenville Art Guild Announces Show Winners

The Greenville Art Guild recently held their annual People’s Choice Art Show at Beanz Buttercream Bakery.

The show is held each year to celebrate the artistic work that members create throughout the year. A few years ago, the group decided to add an element of public voting to determine prize winners since it is ultimately the people who buy and collect art. Over 50 pieces of art were on display, and a variety of mediums were represented, including oils, watercolor, acrylics, mixed media, pastels, and more. Over 240 guests cast their votes for their favorites.

Votes were tallied to determine 1st – 4th place winners as well as six honorable mention awards.

In addition to public voting, this year’s show also included a professionally judged element. Tom Lehman, a professional artist from Elida, Ohio selected winners in four categories that represented the different elements of art and design. These categories were Principles of Composition, Objectivity/Individuality/Style, Color/Harmony/Value, and Drawing/Form. All artists consider these elements in their work regardless of the medium they use in order to create a strong piece. We hoped that using these categories would encourage artists to create high quality works for the show and get back to the basics of what makes a successful piece of art. Winners in these four categories each received a $100 prize.

The winners based on People’s Choice voting are as follows:

1st Place: Debby Gregory – “Waiting on Wings”
2nd Place: Terri Bey – “Autumn’s Beauty”
3rd Place: – Brenda Johnson – “Value of Solitude”
4th Place: Stephanie House – “Sea Oats”
