Drugs

On October 6th, 2023 at approximately 5:09 PM police observed the listed 2005 Pontiac traveling north bound on Wagner Avenue. PO checked the vehicle’s license plate through NCIC/ LEADS and the license plate returned to a 2004 silver Volkswagen. PO conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Cole Thompson and the passenger Misty Markland . Cole advised he did not have a valid driver’s license. PO ran Cole’s social security number and date of birth through Dispatch. Dispatch advised Cole did not have a valid Driver’s license. PO asked Cole if there was any illegal drugs in the vehicle. Cole advised no and that PO could search the car. PO advised Cole and Misty to exit their vehicle and stand by the cruiser. PO called for another unit for a consent search. While PO was waiting for another unit to arrive PO could smell Marijuana coming from Misty. Misty advised she had Marijuana roaches in her pocket. Misty pulled out her pockets and handed PO several Marijuana roaches. PO placed the roaches in the cruiser. Another PO arrived on scene. PO conducted a search of the vehicle and did not locate anything illegal in the vehicle. Cole was issued a citation for fictitious plates and No valid driver’s license. Misty was issued a warning for the marijuana. Cole’s vehicle was towed by Hot Rod’s. Cole and Misty were released from the scene. The Marijuana roaches were taken to the Greenville Police Department and disposed of.

Shoplifting

On October 6th, 2023 at approximately 7:23 PM police was dispatched to 1501 Wagner Avenue in reference to a theft. PO made contact with Jodi Edger, an employee at Walmart. Jodi stated she saw who she thought was Tyler Merritt walking out of the store with a cart full of items such as electronics, Pokemon cards and several other things he did not pay for. Jodi stated she tried to stop Tyler from walking out of the store with the items. Jodi stated Tyler made it outside of the building with the items before he left the items on the sidewalk and ran to his car upon being confronted. Jodi stated Tyler made it past all points of sale without paying for the items. Jodi stated he left in a blue Pontiac Vibe. Jodi showed PO the photos of the subject leaving the store on the security cameras. The subject in the photos was identified as Tyler Merritt. Jodi showed PO the receipt of all the items Tyler had taken. There were electronics and several other miscellaneous items in the cart. The total price of all the items was $585.08. See property table and receipt for a full list of items taken and price of each. Jodi advised PO she would try to get even more photos and that she would bring them to the Police Department. After speaking to Jodi, police tried to locate Tyler’s vehicle in the area but were unable to locate the vehicle or Tyler. Later that evening PO went to Walmart and picked up a DVD and photos that Jodi had prepared. Jodi completed a victim’s rights form and a statement was prepared.

Theft

On October 6, 2023 at approximately 10:58 PM police responded to 117 East Fifth Street, Sure Shot, reference a theft from a vehicle. PO made contact with the victim, Julie Hinson. Julie stated that she arrived at Sure Shot at approximately 6 PM on todays date with her friends and parked her Nissan Pathfinder in the parking lot on the side of the business. Julie stated that at approximately 10:50 PM, someone came into the bar and said that a window was broken on her vehicle. Julie stated she went outside and noticed that the back drivers side window on her vehicle had been broken out and a brown purse that was sitting on the seat was missing. Julie stated that she did not remember the brand of the purse, but stated that she had a Wells Fargo check book containing approximately 50 checks, as well as a Wells Fargo Debit card in the purse. Julie also checked her bank statement and noticed that the card had been used four times tonight that she did not authorize. The first two were at a Family Dollar in Union City, Indiana, for $94.96, and $117.17. The Third transaction was at a Marathon gas station in Fairmont, Indiana for $59.60. The fourth transaction was at Hucks Food, which is another gas station in Greentown, Indiana for $34.70. Julie stated that she has not been to any of these places. Julie was advised to freeze her bank account and cancel her debit card. Julie also filled out a written statement and a victims rights form. Sure shot does not have any surveillance cameras. PO also did not see any cameras in the immediate area around the car. PO also called the Family Dollar in Union City and made contact with an employee named Theresa. Theresa was able to provide photos of the receipts, as well as a photo of the subject that used the card. The subject appears to be a Hispanic male in his early 30’s. Theresa stated that the subject stated he was from Lafayette and was driving through. Photos of the subject will be placed into the briefing log for identification. PO attempted to call the Marathon in Fairmont, but the number provided by google is no longer in service. PO then called Hucks and spoke to an employee who advised that the manager, Hilda, will not be in until Monday, but stated that they do have cameras. The total stolen using the debit card is $306.43. This case will need further investigation.

Vandalism

Narrative

On 10/08/23 at approximately 3:02 PM police responded to 1108 Harrison Ave. on a report of criminal damaging. PO met with the complainant/victim, George Aldora, and his grandson. The grandson stated he has been having issues with 2 individuals. He stated he was assaulted at the GHS football game this past Friday by one of the individuals and he spoke with officers at the game. He further stated he had issues with him at homecoming last night. On today’s date, a female student notified George’s grandson about a Snapchat that she saw from one of the individuals which was a video of the individual puncturing George’s vehicle tire and referencing George’s grandson to come to Family Health presumably to fight. When George and his grandson went outside they found the left rear tire flat. While PO was on scene, George attempted to inflate the tire and PO located an approximate 1″ slice in the sidewall of the tire. The tire was a Goodyear Wrangler P265 65R18 valued at $289.00 and the vehicle is covered by State Farm Insurance. The grandson stated he did not know the female informant’s last name and that the individual who punctured the tire is possibly a sophomore at Mississinewa Valley School and his parents are possibly Todd and Heather Morgan. PO will attempt to contact the individual who punctured the tire to interview him.

Subject with weapon

On October 9, 2023 at approximately 1:16 AM police responded to 201 Wagner Avenue, Speedway in reference to a male with a weapon. While enroute to 201 Wagner Avenue PO was advised by dispatch there were two unknown males in the area of Speedway talking about committing a robbery. PO spoke to complainant, Alice Wolford. Alice advised she was sitting outside, in front of Speedway eating when she observed two males walking near the parking lot of Speedway. The unknown males were talking about committing a robbery. One male had his hand on his hip. Alice never observed any type of weapon, but Alice believed the male had a gun. Alice described both males as white and in their early twenties. One male was approximately 6’4 and wearing a white baseball hat and shorts. The second male was 5’3 and wearing black sweatpants and a Nike shirt. Alice never heard either male state anything specific about the robbery. Alice only heard them talking to each other stating they should commit a robbery. The males never entered Speedway. The males continued walking towards Papa Johns, 1111 East Main Street and were last seen walking behind Papa Johns. The area was checked and no subjects were located that matched the description.
