Wanted Person

On June 27, 2024 at approximately 7:25 PM, while on patrol in the City of Greenville, PO observed a known male subject, Keith Mitchell, riding his bicycle northbound in the alley beside Subway ( 325 Martin Street). It was known that Mitchell had a misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear for trial on an original charge of driving under suspension. PO was able to turn my cruiser around and get behind Mitchell who was then traveling eastbound on Devour Street. Mitchell then turned southbound down the alley between the 200 blocks of Washington Street and North Gray Avenue. Mitchell was advised to stop his bicycle at which time he did. He was advised of his warrant and placed into handcuffs. Dispatch was able to confirm Mitchell’s active warrant through LEADS/NCIC. Mitchell was advised of his Miranda Rights and searched incident to arrest with no contraband being located. Mitchell was placed into the back of the cruiser and transported to DCSO jail were he was incarcerated with a bond of $1,025.00.

Child Abuse

On June 27th, 2024, at approximately 10:30 PM police was dispatched to 800 East Fifth Street, in reference to a welfare check. The complainant advised that kids were living in the residence and there was drugs in the house. While at the listed address PO was speaking to a Katelyn Miron. Katelyn advised that her ex-boyfriend called in the welfare check because he was mad that she left him just yesterday. Katelyn advised that her oldest son had been abused. Katelyn advised that her ex-boyfriend, Jeffrey Franklin, caused the abuse. Katelyn advised that on June 26th around 11:00 AM her, Jeffrey, and her sons was at 209 East Main Street #106. They were living there together. Katelyn stated that she just made her sons lunch and she got into the shower. Katelyn advised that when she got out of the shower, her 6 y/o son told her that his back hurt. She lifted up his shirt and saw several welts on his upper back. Katelyn asked Jeffrey what happened and he advised that their 4 your old son did the abuse. Katelyn confronted Jeffrey about the abuse cause she didn’t believe him. Jeffrey told her if she called the cops he would beat her, and that is why she did not call. While on scene Katelyn pulled up the 6 y/o son’s shirt and PO saw several red and purple abrasions on his upper back. PO asked the boy what happened and he stated that he was eating lunch and he was not eating fast enough. That is when Jeffrey came over with a fly swatter and started hitting him on the upper back. PO asked the boy what the fly swatter looked like and he said it was orange. He was able to tell his statement without any hesitation and no help from his mother, Katelyn. Katelyn did fill out a written statement and victim’s rights form. PO arrived at 209 East Main Street #106 to speak with Jeffrey. Jeffrey denied ever striking the boy and said he didn’t know how he got the abrasion. Jeffrey then later stated that his four year old son does fight with the boy sometimes, Jeffrey was advised a four year old would not have been to cause those abrasions. PO asked Jeffrey to search the residence and he consented. During the search PO located and orange fly swatter on the bed, it was taken as evidence. Jeffrey was cited for child abuse and issued a copy of the citation. PO brough the fly swatter to the Greenville Police Department and from the photos PO took of the child’s back you can see the fly swatter netting marks on his back. This report will be emailed to children services.

Theft (not in progress)

As part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Greenville Police Department the victim, Joye Fry, was contacted regarding her experience with Barberine Custom Works LLC and it’s owner Mark Barberine. According to Fry in August of 2021 she reached out to Barberine Custom Works LLC, located at 1210 Sweitzer St. to have the front end of her vehicle fixed due to an accident she was involved in. On January 14, 2022 Fry gave Barberine a $216.00 insurance check and $400.00 off her debit card to do the repairs. At this point Barberine was not currently in possession of Frys’ vehicle yet. He advised her this money was being used to order the parts needed to fix the vehicle. Following the vehicle drop off and the deposit made for repairs Fry stated she tried contacting Barberine for weeks with no answer. In December Fry received a text from Barberine advising that he had to move his shop to a location around Huber Heights. Fry stated that after that she did not hear from Barberine for months. Fry stated at one point Barberine texted her and advised her he was waiting on her insurance company to give him more money. On November 29, 2022 Barberine received an additional insurance check from the insurance company in the amount of $1,062.27. In February of 2024 Fry received a visit from the Greenville Police Department informing her that her vehicle was found on a side street off of Dryden Rd. in Morain. Fry had the vehicle picked up and discovered that the catalytic converter had been removed, and that there had been no work done to er vehicle at all.  After picking the vehicle up Fry received a call from Barberine who stated that he would pay her back for everything, so Fry typed up a contract indicating Barberine was to pay $671.00 a month for four months. This was signed by both parties on March 9, 2024, 19 months after receiving her vehicle. The contract included the following: $216.00 Insurance check received by Barberine, $400.00 Debit card transaction received by Barberine, $1,062.27 Insurance check received by Barberine, $886.00 Catalytic converter replacement. At the time of this report Barberine has made none of the payments agreed on. This case was submitted to the Darke County Prosecutors Office for one count of Theft by Deception under Ohio Revised Code Section 2913.02(A)( 3), a felony of the fifth degree, and one count of Insurance Fraud under Ohio Revied Code Section 2913.47 (B)(l) a felony of the fifth degree.

Wanted Person

On June 29, 2024 at 6:48 AM police was dispatched to 1111 North Ohio Street, the Greenville K-8 school in reference to a suspicious person. The complainant advised there was a male subject sleeping by the front doors. PO observed a male subject wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a ball cap sleeping near the front doors. PO woke the subject up who identified himself as Casey Russell. PO had Greenville dispatch check Casey through LEADS/NCIC and was advised Casey has an active warrant out of Montgomery County. Casey was advised of the warrant and to stand up and place his hands behind his back. Casey complied and he was detained. Montgomery County confirmed the warrant a short time later and Casey was advised he was now under arrest. PO checked Casey’s person incident to arrest and no contraband was located. Casey was transported to the Darke County jail to await transport to Montgomery County. Casey’s warrant was for telecommunications harassment with a bond of $35,000 out of Miamisburg Municipal Court.

Wanted Person

On June 30, 2024 at approximately 3:40 AM police was at 422 Hart Avenue, the GPD impound lot while Johnsons towing impounded a stolen vehicle. PO was given prior information that the passenger in Johnson’s Towing tow truck was Creighton Mendenhall, who has an active warrant out of the Greenville Police Department. While on scene, the front seat passenger was observed and matched the description of Creighton Mendenhall. The male was then asked to exit the tow truck. After a short time, the male exited the truck and eventually admitted his name was Creighton Mendenhall. Creighton was placed into handcuffs. Creighton was searched incident to arrest and no contraband was located. Creighton was transported to the Darke County Jail where he is being held on a failure to appear warrant for a suppression hearing, bond $2025.

Pursuit

On July 2nd, 2024 at approximately 10:41 PM police observed the listed 2008 Pontiac traveling south bound on Fort Recovery Road. PO attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle for failing to come to a complete stop prior to a clearly visible stop sign at the intersection of Fort Recovery Road and Union Street. PO activated my overhead lights and the vehicle did not comply and increased speed. The vehicle turned right on to State Route 571. PO activated my sirens and the vehicle continued to flee at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued traveling west bound on State Route 571 at speeds of 110+ miles per hour. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes. The total distance of the pursuit was 5.9 miles. PO lost sight of the vehicle at the intersection of Coletown Lightsville Road and Hillgrove Woodington road and the pursuit was terminated. The traffic during the entire pursuit was light to none. An anonymous caller advised a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle possibly belonged to 1852 Cole Street, Greenville, Ohio. The caller advised their neighbor at 1852 Cole Street, Kelsey Lynch was outside yelling “They are chasing my man, Doug”. Police and Sheriff went to the address and spoke to Kelsey. Kelsey advised Doug was not in the residence and had not been in the residence in sometime because they had broken up. Kelsey allowed police to search the residence and they did not locate Doug. Sgt advised PO he believed the suspect could be Doug Miller. Kelsey also admitted that Doug would have been driving a silver Pontiac G6. When Sgt. asked what the relationship was to the registered owner and Doug; she advised they used to date. Sgt. advised an anonymous caller advised Darke County dispatch that police were at the correct residence. The caller advised they saw several subjects out in the yard yelling to get the driver out of there before officers arrived. The caller advised she saw a subject leave in a White full size pick up just prior to police’s arrival. Police and Sheriff checked the area for the vehicle and did not locate the vehicle. PO will attempt to contact the registered owner about who would have had the vehicle. PO will also attempt to contact Doug Miller about his where abouts at the time of the pursuit.
