Susp Person
On July 6th, 2024 at approximately 4:15 AM a PO was out with a vehicle at W Main St and Chestnut St. While on duty during the above date and time he observed a white Dodge truck parked in front of 416 W Main St running with a male subject slumped over the wheel. Once arriving at the vehicle PO observed the owner, Christopher Campbell, to be in the driver seat asleep with an opened can of beer in the cup holder beside him. PO knocked multiple times on the driver side window along with shining his flashlight but was unable to wake him for an extended period of time. Once Christopher was awake he stated he had a long day working at the Merchant House and fell asleep. Christopher stated he left there at approximately 12:30 AM that night and went straight home. PO advised Chris it was now past 4 am, and asked if he had been parking there the whole time. Chris then stated he dropped a friend off at home first and got the beer in the cup holder from him. PO advised Christopher that he could be charged with multiple charges. PO issued Christopher a citation for open container and he was advised of his court date. Once the citation was issued he went inside his residence for the night.
Susp Vehicle
On July 6, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM police responded to 1395 Sweitzer Street reference a suspicious vehicle. PO contacted the complainant, Denisse Villachica. Denisse stated that there has been a black Honda CRV with Kentucky registration parked in the parking lot for over a week with the windows down. Denisse stated she has not seen anyone in it and has never seen it before. PO observed the passenger side front window to be broken out and the glass laying in the seat and the floorboard. PO also observed that the key was left in the ignition. PO contacted several neighbors who stated that the car has been there for over a week and nobody that PO spoke to knew who the car belonged to and have never seen it before. PO checked the registration through LEADS/NCIC and learned that it was registered to Voluen Cooper who is from Louisville, KY. Dispatch contacted Louisville PD and had them attempt to contact Voluen at his address, 432 E Jefferson Street #227. Louisville was unable to contact Voluen and did not have any contact information for him. Photos were taken of the vehicle and the key was taken for safe keeping and placed into property until the owner can be located.
Theft from Vehicle
On July 6th, 2024, at approximately 6:44 PM police was dispatched to 218 Eleventh Street in reference to a theft not in progress. PO made contact with Christopher Cooper. Christopher advised his license plate is missing and he believes it may have been stolen because the threads where the plate screws in are still intact. Christopher advised he believes his license plate was still on his truck Thursday, July 5th, 2024 because a Police Officer was behind him and did not stop him. Christopher advised he took his truck to the Dave Arbogast Ford dealership in Tipp City on Friday July 5th, 2024 at 1:00 PM for a service. Christopher advised he took his truck to the dealership’s car wash immediately after the service. Christopher advised he checked the area around his house for the license plate but could not locate it. Christopher advised he believes the license plate may have fallen off his vehicle during the car wash. Christopher advised he will call the dealership on Monday when they open to see if they located the license plate. After speaking to Christopher, PO checked the area for the license plate and was unable to locate it. Dispatch entered the license plate into LEADS/NCIC as stolen.
Property Damage
On July 7th, 2024, at approximately 4:35 PM police was dispatched to 324 West Water Street in reference to a criminal damaging incident. PO contacted Ryan Neargarder. Ryan advised he was taking a neighbor’s trash out and noticed the catalytic converter was hanging near the ground on his vehicle just prior to calling the Greenville Police Department. PO got under the vehicle and observed a clean cut near the vehicle’s catalytic converter. PO took photos of the vehicle and the catalytic converter. Ryan stated he does not have cameras near his residence. PO spoke with several neighbors, and they advised they do not have camera’s either. Ryan advised he did not tamper with the catalytic converter in anyway. Ryan stated he was going to cut it completely off now that it is damaged. Ryan filled out a statement form and a victim’s rights form.
Search Warrant
On July 9th, 2024, at approximately 4:05 PM the Greenville Police Department received information about a wanted subject. It was advised that Benjamin Chaney was inside the residence at 524 Gray Avenue. A search warrant was obtained to search the inside of the residence. Through LEADS/NCIC it was confirmed that Benjamin Chaney had an active felony probation warrant through Darke County Sheriff’s office, bond. The search warrant was executed and several witnesses were located inside the residence; Joseph Smith, Carrie Swink, Joseph Buckley and Wanda Buckley. While searching the upstairs bedroom Benjamin Chaney was located inside the closet hiding. Benjamin was arrested and transported to the Darke County Jail. The subject was also search incident to arrest with no contraband located.
