Theft
On August 21, 2023 at approximately 3:18 PM police was dispatched to 710 Washington Avenue in reference to a report of a theft of tools. The PO met with the complainant/victim, Tyler Stephens. Tyler advised that he works for Benanzer and on Friday August 18, 2023 at approximately 6:00 PM he had left work for the day leaving his tools inside the locked apartment at the listed address. Tyler advised that when he returned to work on August 21, 2023 at approximately 10:00 AM, he noticed his black and green Makita tool bag containing three Dewault drills, one Dewault impact drill, four amp battery charger, five Dewault batteries and a hole saw valued at approximately $800.00 was missing from the apartment. After speaking with Tyler further he advised that he made sure the doors to the listed address were locked when he left work on the 18th and when he arrived today the doors to the apartment were still locked. The PO observed there to be no signs of forced entry into the apartment. Tyler advised that they do not have a key to the apartment and in order to gain entry key a code is needed to unlock the doors. The PO canvased the area and was unable to locate any residents that had any surveillance footage of the incident. Tyler advised that he spoke with a neighbor on August 21, 2023 at approximately 11:30 AM. The neighbor advised he noticed a male subject approximately six feet tall with short hair and tattoo arm sleeves riding a bicycle wearing a bookbag in the area over the weekend but was unable to identify the male subject. The PO attempted to speak with that neighbor at 724 Washington Avenue but did not get an answer at the listed residence. Tyler was advised the report number and was given a Victim’s Right’s card. He was advised his rights as a victim. The PO was able to check through the LEADS online data base in an attempt to locate the stolen tools but was unable to locate any tools or suspects matching the listed description. There are currently no leads or suspects in this case. This case should be considered closed.
Missing Person
On August 21, 2023 at approximately 6:40 PM police responded to 519 Southbrook Drive reference a welfare check on Kayela Trittschuh. Prior to the police’s arrival the PO was advised by dispatch that Kayela sent several messages to Adam Kolb stating that she wanted somebody to find her decomposing body in a couple of hours. The PO made contact with Kayela’s mother, Susan Waldon. Susan stated Adam sent her a copy of the messages, which she was able to show to the PO. In the messages, Kayela stated that she wanted Adam to find her decomposing body in a couple of hours, because she couldn’t do it anymore. Kayela also messaged that she was serious. Susan stated that the last time that she saw Kayela was the evening of 8/20, and that she seemed normal then. Susan stated that Kayela was at her house earlier on todays date, but Susan was at work and did not get to talk to her. Susan was given the PO’s contact info and advised she would email the PO a copy of the messages. The PO also made contact with Adam Kolb over the phone. Adam also advised the police of the text messages. Adam stated that he last saw Kayela earlier this afternoon on Harrison Avenue and that she was wearing a red shirt with jean shorts. Adam stated that he does not know where she is currently, but stated she commonly spends time with the following people at the following addresses: John Harvey, 609 Walnut St #11, Greenville, OH, Gage Bradburn, 303 Chestnut Street, Greenville, OH, Mellissa Marchal, 325 West Third Street, Greenville, OH, Steve White, 416 Eleventh Street, Greenville, OH, All of the above listed addresses were checked but Kayela was not located. The PO also attempted to call Kayela’s phone, but she did not answer. Dispatch also attempted to ping Kayela’s cell phone, but was unable to due to the phone being WI-FI only. Dispatch was able to find an old phone number for Kayela that pinged at 835 Park Avenue in Piqua, but it is unknown if this is still her number. Piqua PD checked the address but was unable to locate her. Nobody has been able to make contact with Kayela since receiving these messages. Due to the suicidal comments, A “Be on the Lookout” was sent out to surrounding Counties to stop and check her welfare if she is located. After not locating Kayela by 9:00 PM, she was entered into LEADS/NCIC as a missing person.
Nuisances
On 08/13/23 at approximately 11:00 PM, police was on patrol in the Greenville City North Park when the PO saw a brown Buick double parked in the parking lot near the basketball courts. The PO approached the vehicle and did not locate anyone around. The vehicle had a lot of trash in it and the driver’s window was down and the back driver’s window partially down. There was a note on the front passenger’s window that stated the car broke down and they would be back to get it. There was a phone number listed to call with questions. On 08/21/23 at approximately 9:27 hours, the PO was on patrol in the Greenville City North Park and observed the same vehicle still parked where it was on 08/13/23. The note was still in place and nothing had changed. The left rear control arm was broken and the tire was flat and turned inward about 30 degrees making the vehicle inoperable. Dispatch called the listed number and left a voicemail. The registered owner, Jesse Rutter, had a Versailles address that another PO said was not good and that she lived somewhere on Sweitzer St.. The PO was unable to locate any Rutter’s on Sweitzer St. Due to the vehicle being inoperable and abandoned in a city park, Dillman’s was contacted and removed the vehicle. Rutter called into GPD and was advised it was being towed. Photographs were taken of the vehicle.
Theft
On August 21, 2023 at approximately 10:07 PM police responded to 1250 Russ Road; Casey’s, reference a theft. The PO made contact with Preston Miles, who is an employee at Casey’s. Preston stated that prior to the police’s arrival, four subjects entered to store and attempted to purchase approximately $330 worth of Newport cigarettes. Preston stated a black female wearing a black tank top had several coupons on her phone that she wanted to use. Preston stated that they were getting ready to close for the night and he had a long day at work so he wasn’t paying good attention to the coupons. Preston stated that the subject had the coupons on her phone and was swiping through the coupons as he scanned them. Preston stated that as he was completing the transaction, his coworker, Jamie Kirk advised him that the Casey’s in Versailles called and advised they had fraudulent coupons for cigarettes used at their store, and advised them to cancel the transaction. Preston stated that at that point he had already completed the transaction. Preston stated that it is difficult to tell when an online coupon is fraudulent. Preston stated that they will often scan like normal coupons and they will not find out till later that it was fraudulent. Preston stated that one of the only way to tell at the time of use, is that a good coupon will flash on the screen of the phone because they are on a timer. Preston stated that he did not realize till afterwards that the subjects phone screen was not flashing as he scanned them. Preston stated that he was not able to tell if the subject was actually on the internet or just swiping through a phone gallery. Preston filled out a written statement and a victims rights form. The PO was also able to speak to Jamie. Jamie stated that he was in the back of the store while Preston was processing the transaction. Jamie stated that he received a phone call from the Versailles store advising not to accept any online coupons as they had just been scammed. Jaime stated that he went and handed the phone to Preston. Jamie stated he observed the transaction on the screen and thought it was odd that they were purchasing a large amount of cigarettes for only around $30. Jamie filled out a written statement. The PO was also able to speak to the store Manager, Anthony Maloy. Anthony stated that he manages several Casey’s stores in the area and was aware of this incident reference the same thing happening at several other stores. Anthony stated that they did have video in the store but he was not able to provide a copy until the morning.
Drugs
On August 23, 2023 at approximately 3:38 PM while on patrol police observed the listed 2005 Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound on the 300 block of Tiffin Street. The vehicle passed the police and the PO immediately recognized the driver as Tricia Henninger, and Glen Julian in the front passenger seat. The PO checked LEADS/NCIC and found Tricia has no valid driver’s license. The PO initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and Tricia traveled to the backyard of 310 Tiffin Street before parking the vehicle. Through LEADS/NCIC the PO confirmed the owner of the vehicle to be Gale Chrisman. Tricia, Glen, and Gale all reside at the same residence. Glen then exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away from it. When Glen turned around the PO observed a large hunting knife in his back pants pocket. The PO ordered Glen three times to get back into the vehicle before he complied. The PO made contact with Tricia who admitted to having no driver’s license and stated the registered owner, Gale Chrisman allowed her to drive the vehicle. Another PO arrived to the scene and the first PO asked Glen to exit the vehicle. He told Glen that he was going to remove the knife from his pocket, and Glen reached for and grabbed the knife. The PO grabbed Glen’s arm and told him to let go of the knife, and he complied. The PO removed the knife from Glen’s pocket and asked him if he had any other weapons in his pockets. Glen reached into his front pants pockets and the PO told him to take his hands out of them. Glen then stated he had another knife in his front pocket. Due to Glen’s extensive violent criminal history including several convictions for burglary, assault, felonious assault, disorderly conduct and having listed cautions for being an escape risk, previous physical altercations with LE, and having violent tendencies, the PO performed a pat-down search of his person for weapons. The PO felt the knife and a plastic bag that the PO immediately recognized to be illegal drugs in Glen’s pants pocket. When the PO reached into Glen’s pocket, Glen stated to the PO that he had methamphetamine, marijuana and a glass pipe in his pockets. The PO seized a plastic bag containing a white crystal-like substance, a second plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, and a glass pipe with burnt residue. The PO then issued Tricia a citation reference driving with no license, and Gale a citation reference wrongful entrustment. Gale and Tricia were advised of their court dates. The unknown substances and the glass pipe were placed into property. The crystal-like substance will be sent to the BCI laboratory for analysis.
Domestic Violence
On 08/23/23 at approximately 7:38 PM, GPD responded to 450 E. Third St. on a domestic dispute. Gary and Cheryl Hittle reside at the residence with the involved people except Summer Maxwell. There was a verbal argument between Gary and son. No school aged children were present. Gary, Cheryl, and Cody remained at the residence and all other parties left.
Theft
On July 31st, 2023 the PO was assigned to review several theft incidents committed by Matthew Fitzgerald at Wal-Mart. These transactions had been found by Walmart’s Loss Prevention Associate Jodi Edger after linking the debit card Matthew used in a theft offense on July 30th, 2023, to other transactions. In all of the videos in which Jodi advised the same debit card was used, it also appears to be Matthew in the surveillance videos. The PO reviewed a video Jodi had attached to a report of theft from Wal-Mart on May 21st, 2023 at approximately 4:51pm. The PO observed Matthew approach the self-checkout at approximately 4:48pm. The PO observed Matthew hold two packages of meat, one on top of the other, and scan only one package of meat, but place both into a shopping bag. He then picks up a bag of tater tots from the cart, along with a box of turkey burgers. He places the turkey burgers on top of the tater tots and only scans the tater tots, before placing both in a shopping bag. The PO then observed him have a package of paper Dixie bowls in his left hand, and a pack of strawberries in the right. He only scanned the strawberries and then placed both items in a bag. The PO then observed him to have two containers of diced peaches, but only scan one, then place both in a shopping bag. After placing all shopping bags into his cart, and checking out, he then proceeds to the Grocery side exit. He proceeds through all last points of sale without paying for the listed items he failed to scan. The items listed in the theft totaled $30.31, before tax. The PO reviewed video Jodi attached to a report of theft from May 28th, 2023 at approximately 1:32pm. The PO observed Matthew and a female subject approach the self checkout at approximately 1:31pm. Matthew scans the items then hands them to the female to be bagged. Matthew fails to scan a package of women’s bikini underwear, but places them to the right of the scanner, as though they had been. The female picks up the package and places it into a shopping bag. Matthew then pays for the items he did scan and picks up the shopping bag, proceeding to the Grocery side exit. Matthew passes all last points of sale, failing to pay for the underwear. The item listed in the theft totaled $16.84, before tax. The PO reviewed video Jodi attached to a report of theft from June 10th, 2023 at approximately 12:44pm. In the video the PO observed Matthew and the same female from before approach the self checkouts at approximately 12:42pm. The PO observed Matthew with a pair of sunglasses and a shirt in his hands. He scanned only the sunglasses and then gave both the shirt and sunglasses to the female, in which she placed in a shopping bag. The PO then observed Matthew pick up what appeared to be face cream, and a package of bath sponges. He placed the supposed face cream on top of the bath sponges, then scanned only the bath sponges before handing them to the female to bag. He then scanned the last two items and checked out. Matthew then took the bags and he and the female walked out the Grocery side exit, passing all last points of sale, with the bag(s) of merchandise. The items listed in the theft totaled $41.95, before tax. The reviewed video Jodi attached to a report of theft from June 11th, 2023 at approximately 1:55pm. The PO observed Matthew approach the self-checkout at approximately 1:54pm. The PO observed him pull from his cart a package of fruit in his left hand, and a pack of batteries in his right hand. I then observed him scan the fruit in his left hand, and then place both the fruit and batteries into a shopping bag, without scanning the batteries. I observed him with two 3lb. bags of “Cuties” mandarin oranges, The PO observed him scan one bag, then place both in a shopping bag. He scans other items and bags them. With a 6 pack of toilet paper, two bottles of Downy fabric softener/detergent, a box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, and a case of Dasani water in the cart, he spends a couple seconds looking around then proceeds to pay without any attempt to remove the items from the cart, or scan them. He then proceeds out the Grocery doors exit and passes all last points of sale without paying for the listed items. The items listed in the theft totaled $56.51, before tax. The PO reviewed video Jodi attached to a report of theft from June 18th, 2023 at approximately 1:36pm. On the video the PO observed Matthew, approach the self-checkout scanner at approximately 1334 hours. The PO observed the same female from before bagging the items after he scans them. The PO observed Matthew pick up two packages of tortillas out of the cart, and a purple monster drink. He scanned one of the tortilla packages and had the other tortilla package in his other hand, over the Monster Energy Drink. After scanning the one tortilla package, he handed both to the female and then sat the Monster Energy drink down, to the right of the scanner, to which the female would shortly thereafter pick up and place in a bag. The PO then observed Matthew pick up what appeared to be a jar of pickles in his left hand, and a box of Crystal Light drink packets in his right hand. The PO observed him scan the jar of pickles, then place both items down, to the right of the scanner, which the female then bagged. Once the cart was down to four items left, the PO observed Matthew pick up the case of Arizona Sweet Tea and scan it, but he made no attempt to scan the toilet paper, milk, or case of water that were in the cart. He then checked out. Matthew and the female then walked away from the self-checkout and exited through the general merchandise side doors at approximately 1:39pm. As they exit the store, passing all last points of sale, the case of water, gallon of milk, and toilet paper can still be seen in the cart in the place they had been when they were failed to be scanned at the self-checkout. The items listed in the theft, that were not scanned, totaled $26.36, before tax. The PO reviewed video Jodi attached to a report of theft from June 26th, 2023 at approximately 6:20pm. The PO observed Matthew approach the self-checkout scanner at approximately 6:18pm. The PO observed him scan a package of cheese, holding a package of meat over the cheese, so that they appeared as one item, but the meat did not get scanned. The PO then observed him place both items into a shopping bag, before shortly after placing the shopping bag into his cart. He then proceeded to the Grocery side exit, with the bags in his cart. He passed all last points of sale with the unpaid package of meat. The item listed in the theft totaled $3.74, before tax. The PO reviewed video Jodi Edger attached to a report of theft from July 9th, 2023 at approximately 12:22pm. The PO observed Matthew approach the self-checkout at approximately 12:15pm. The PO observed him place a package of strawberries on top of a package of lunch meat, then only scan the strawberries, before placing both into a shopping bag. The PO observed him pick up a pack of paper bowls and a pack of paper plates out of his cart, look directly up into the camera, then place them into a shopping bag, without scanning either item, then placing the bag into his shopping cart. He then pays for the items he did scan, while failing to ever scan the toilet paper on the bottom of the cart. He then proceeds with the shopping cart, to the grocery exit, passing all last points of sale, and failing to pay for the unscanned merchandise. The items listed in the theft totaled $34.44, before tax. Walmart is requesting restitution for these theft occurrences that Matthew committed. The total of these thefts is $210.15. Jodi provided statements, copies of the videos and completed a victim’s rights form. On August 22nd, 2023 Matthew was issued a citation for theft and was advised of his court date.
