Passing Bad Checks

February 9

On February 9 at 1:41 hours, police was dispatched to 100 Integrity Place, Kirby Lyon’s Auctions, in reference to a bad checks complaint. An employee advised that a suspect bought $3,590 worth of items from their auction and wrote them a personal check for the amount. When she went to cash the check she found that it was not any good and she was not able to cash it. She advised that the buyer came back to their office and spoke with them. The buyer became upset and left when she told him that they would have to report the bad check. Police advised the employee of the 10 day notice / Bad Check procedure that the buyer would get to pay for the items and to make the check valid. On February 11, 2023 police was able to make contact with the buyer by phone. He was advised he had 10 days to pay for the items he bought or to write a valid check or payment. He was advised that if he did not pay within 10 days he would face felony charges. He advised he would pay Kirby Lyons Auctions but did not want to go to their business to do it. He was then advised that when he had the funds, he could call Kirby Lyons Auctions and have someone meet him at the Police department for a keep the peace. On February 16, 2023 at 12:55 PM, dispatch advised that the buyer dropped off an envelope and stated it was for Kirby Lyons Auction. Kirby Lyons Auctions was then contacted to advise the buyer had dropped off an envelope that contained money orders through the US Postal Service totaling $3,600 to Kirby Lyons.

OVI

February 18

On February 18 at approximately 11:49 PM police observed a black 2003 Ford F-150 being operated in the City of Greenville in the area of East Fourth Street with the applied tint on the vehicle window that appeared darker than the 50% light transmittance allowed by law. A traffic stop was made and the operator of the vehicle was confirmed to be the owner, John Brock. While speaking with John the P.O. could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and John’s eyes were blood shot and glossy and his speech was slightly slurred. John was asked to exit the vehicle to perform of set of standardized field sobriety tests, which he performed poorly. The transparency of the tint was tested and showed only 13% of available light being allowed to pass thru the tint. John was arrested and transported to the Greenville Police Department. John, who has three prior OVI convictions in the last 20 years consented to a chemical breath text, which showed his BAC was .056%. John was cited reference window tint and operating a vehicle under the influence and released.

Traffic Stop/Warrant

February 19

On February 19, at approximately 9:44 AM, police observed a vehicle being operated southbound on Sweitzer Street near Eidson Road. The rear license place failed to display its county sticker due to a license plate frame that appeared to be covering it. The P.O. conducted a traffic stop for the violation and made contact with the driver and his passengers. The back seat passenger identified herself as Nicole Rupert and gave her date of birth. Due to the driver having history of trafficking narcotics, police requested GPD dispatch to see if Deputy Joseph with the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and his K9 partner were available which they were and responded. The P.O. ran Rupert through LEADS/NCIC and found that she had an active warrant for her arrest through the Preble County Sheriff’s Office for Possession of a Drug Abuse Instrument. Once Deputy Joseph and his K9 partner arrived, they preformed a free air sniff around the vehicle which the K9 gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics at the driver door. Rupert was placed under arrest and transported to the Darke County Jail where she was incarcerated for her warrant until she could be picked up by Preble County.

Warrant

February 19

On February 19, at approximately 2:00 PM, police responded to the Towne House Motel; 209 East Main Street for a Wanted Person check. The defendant Misti Blankenship, who was staying in room 112, had an arrest warrant for failure to appear for theft with a bond of $25,000 out of Montgomery County. Police knocked on the door and saw through an open window that Blankenship was inside. Blankenship exited the apartment and police informed her that she had a warrant and she was placed under arrest. Dispatch confirmed the warrant through LEADS/NCIC. Blankenship was transported to A. Brown & Sons Nursery; 11506 North Dayton Greenville Pike, Brookville. OH 45309 where the Huber Heights Police Department took custody.

February 19

On February 19 at approximately 2:21 PM, officers received information that a known subject, Franz Hardin, was staying at 325 East Third Street with Lisa Ganim. Police went to the address and made contact with Lisa who was noticeably upset and on the telephone stating that she could no longer do this and she needed to just leave. Lisa gave consent to enter her residence, but officers discovered that the front and the back doors to the residence had been locked with a sliding bolt from the inside of the residence. After a short period of time Hardin made contact with officers through the front door of the residence. He advised that he was coming out and did not want any problems. Hardin exited the residence and was placed into hand cuffs. The certificate of arrest through adult parole was confirmed by Greenville PD dispatch. Franz was searched incident to arrest with no contraband being located and transported to DCSO where he is incarcerated reference the Parole Violation with no bond.

February 21

On February 21 at approximately 9:33 PM while on patrol a P.O. observed Cody Lloyd entering a vehicle that was parked in front of 118 River Street. The officer had prior knowledge that Cody has a warrant through the Greenville Police Department for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Disseminating Harmful Images with a $425 bond. The warrant was confirmed through Greenville Police Dispatch. The officer approached Cody and advised him that he was under arrest and Cody was then transported to the Darke County Jail and released to Jail staff.
