Overdose

March 8

On March 8, 2023 at approximately 4:47 PM police responded to 123 East Water Street reference an overdose. Police observed a male subject, identified as Rodney Lease, laying unresponsive on the kitchen floor. Siobahn Helton was standing over him and stated that he had taken an unknown substance but did not know what it was, and fell to the floor. Rodney’s face was turning purple, he had inconsistent snoring respirations, and no pulse could be detected. P.O. began to administer CPR to Rodney. While doing so, Siobahn brought the police a 4mg package of nasal Narcan Spray. P. 0. Marion arrived on scene shortly after and administered the Narcan to Rodney and took over CPR. Greenville Rescue then responded to the scene and administered aid to Rodney. Rodney then began to breath and became responsive. He did not admit to taking any illegal drugs and no illegal drugs were found in the immediate area around him. Rodney signed a refusal form and was not transported to the Hospital.

Menacing/Telecommunications Harassment

March 11

On March 11, 2023 at approximately 5:28 PM police was dispatched to the Greenville Police Department reference a telecommunications harassment complaint. Police made contact with the complainant/victim Derhonda Mcnally who advised that she received three phone calls from the Darke County Jail on March 11, 2023. The first phone call was at 10:44 am, second one was at 11:44 am and the final phone call was at 4:15 pm. Derhonda advised that her son Christopher Newberry was incarcerated there on March 8, 2023. Derhonda stated that she has made several complaints about Christopher contacting her by telephone. Derhonda played one of the phone calls where she answered the phone. In the phone conversation police could immediately recognize the male voice on the other end of the phone to be Christopher. Derhonda asks Christopher why he was calling her. Christopher stated that he wanted to let her know that he was in jail. Derhonda then stated to Christopher that he wasn’t suppose to call her anymore. Christopher then hung up the phone. On March 6, 2023 P. 0. Spradley warned Christopher for telecommunications harassment reference to him calling Derhonda. Police then arrived at the Darke County Jail and made contact with Cpl. Anglero who was able to pull up security camera footage of Christopher Newberry in male pod. In the video it clearly shows Christopher use the telephone on the wall at 10:44 am, 11:44 am and 4:15 pm. Police then spoke to Christopher and asked him if he had contacted his mother using the telephone in the jail. Christopher then became emotional and then stated that he just wanted to talk to his mom. Christopher admitted to contacting Derhonda by telephone while he was in jail. Police served Christopher a misdemeanor citation for telecommunications harassment and he was advised of his mandatory court date.

Warrant / Fugitive from Justice

March 10

On March 10th 2023 at approximately 2:20 AM, police arrived at 724 Hiddeson avenue Greenville OH 45331, where Paul Deal Jr. resides. Paul was known to have an active warrant out of Van Wert Sheriffs Office. Paul was located in a shed on the property, where he was placed under arrest and in handcuffs and searched incident to arrest. GPD dispatch confirmed through LEADS/NCIC and Van Wert Sheriffs Office Paul had an active warrant out of Van Wert County Sheriffs Office for contempt of court with no bond. Paul was then transported to Darke County Jail where he was incarcerated pending extradition.

March 14

On March 14, 2023 at approximately 8:29 PM while on patrol, police observed a 2012 Ford Focus traveling southbound on Chestnut Street at West Third Street, making a left turn onto West Third Street, before making a right turn into an alley without using a turn signal. Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the vehicle pulled into the driveway behind 225 Chestnut Street. The female driver and a male passenger then exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away. Police ordered the two subjects to get back into the vehicle several times before they complied. Police then made contact with the driver, Melissa Mead. Dispatch checked and learned that Melissa has no valid driver’s license. The male subject refused to identify himself on multiple occasions. The male subject then identified himself as Shawn Houpt, who police knew to have an active warrant for his arrest. Police placed Shawn into handcuffs. Dispatch confirmed that Shawn has an active Darke County sheriff’s Office warrant for failing to appear on a DUI offense, with a bond of $2,025.00. Shawn was placed under arrest and transported to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office jail. Melissa was issued a citation reference having no driver’s license and the turn signal violation, and she was advised of her court date.

Possession/Abuse of Drugs

March 12

On March 12, 2023 at approximately 1:10 PM, police was dispatched to 741 Wayne Avenue in reference to drug paraphernalia being located. Police met with the complainant, Emma Wagner, who advised that she had been walking around the northside of her front porch at the listed address when she had located two small coin bags from Greenville Federal Bank hidden underneath spouting on the ground. Inside the coin bags she located what she believed to be drug paraphernalia. Police was able to observe inside the bags and located two red cut straws several spoons with burn residue and also small cotton balls on them as well as a frame mission statement card and a blue debit Mastercard belonging to Christopher Clear inside them. The Mastercard was taken and placed into property for safe keeping with the rest of the items being deemed to be of no value and disposed of properly. With a negative outcome, Police attempted to make contact with Clear several times. There will be noting further in this case and should be considered closed.
