Assist another Agency / Child Abuse

May 13

On May 13, 2023 at approximately 9:48 PM police responded to 118 Redwood Drive reference a medical complaint. Police spoke with Aliyah Pike, who stated that 59-year old Dawn Dixon was disoriented and wouldn’t speak to her. Greenville Rescue responded to the scene, and Dawn was transported to Wayne Hospital for treatment. While inside the residence, police observed that there was cat feces and vomit throughout all of the furniture and the floors in the entirety of the residence. There were piles of trash and clutter throughout the residence, and the smell inside was putrid. Police counted approximately thirty cats inside the residence. There were several litterboxes that were full of cat feces. police spoke with Aliyah and Tyler Kolbe and asked if there were any children inside the residence, and Aliyah walked into her bedroom and attempted to close the door. Police looked inside the bedroom and saw Aliyah holding an infant child. The bedroom had cat feces and vomit through the floors, the mattress sheets were stained and dirty, and almost the entire floor was covered with garbage. Aliyah stated that the child is her and Tyler’s son (referred to as CV) who is four months old. Police advised Aliyah that the conditions inside the home are unacceptable and that children’s services would be informed of the conditions. Police then entered the garage and found a large cage inside, that contained thirteen cats. The cage had piles of feces, and there was feces throughout the garage. Police advised Aliyah that the CV can no longer stay at 118 Redwood until it’s cleaned up. Aliyah called her mother, Heather Guthrie who responded to the scene to pick the CV up. Police followed Heather to her residence at 722 Gray Avenue, and checked the inside of the residence to ensure it was clean. Police called Children Services and informed Carrie Perry of the incident. Charges are pending.

Animal Problem/Complaint

May 15

On May 15, 2023 at approximately 11:07 PM police responded to 5438 State Route 49 #52, Colonial Mobile Home Park reference a barking dog complaint. Police heard two dogs barking loudly from inside the mobile home trailer. Police checked the front door and observed that the two dogs had chewed a large portion of the front door off, and they were bleeding from the mouth. Police observed several pieces of fiberglass with blood on them, and blood throughout the front door. Police looked inside the trailer through the window, and saw that the trailer appeared vacant & there was debris and trash throughout the floor. Police couldn’t see any water or food bowls inside the trailer. Tamara Walker then arrived to the scene from across the street at lot #37. Tamara stated that the dogs belong to her son, Alex Walker. Tamara stated that Alex doesn’t reside in lot #52, but he keeps his dogs inside of the trailer which is vacant. Tamara stated that Alex resides with her, but he wasn’t currently home. Tamara stated that the dogs will most likely be aggressive if handled. Tamara attempted to call Alex’s cellular phone but there was no answer. Police also attempted to call Alex with no answer, and the voicemail hasn’t been set up. Police took photographs of the scene before contacting Sherry Burk with the Darke County Humane Society. Sherry stated that she would contact the dog warden to verify whether or not Alex has registered the dogs. Sherry stated she would also contact the humane society to schedule a visit to the listed address, to attempt to check the dogs and possibly capture them. Alex will be cited reference animal care City Ordinance (618.04A) when located.

Theft

May 15

On May 15, 2023 at approximately 11:44 PM police responded to 1501 Wagner Avenue; Walmart reference a theft complaint. Police made contact with the complainant, Jodi Edger who stated that a female subject had just placed several items into her purse, before passing all points of sale and exiting the business and entering the parking lot. Jodi stated that she stopped the female, and the female handed Jodi all of the stolen items and her purse, before leaving the scene. Jodi showed me photographs of the female, and I immediately recognized her as Kierra Hamm. Jodi showed police the bag and the items, and police learned that Kierra stole the following items: Four bags of Sweetarts candy ($9. 12)’ -One 65-Watt universal laptop charger ($19. 97), One pair of boys socks ($5.97), One pair of women’s shorts ($9.98), One women’s shirt ($10. 98). Kierra stole a total of $56. 02 worth of merchandise, all of which was recovered and returned to shelves at Walmart. Police searched the area for Kierra, but she wasn’t located during the incident. Jodi completed a victim right’ s form, and she provided a statement. Jodi also provided a DVD containing video of the incident. Kierra is to be issued a citation reference theft when located, and she will be warned for trespassing from Walmart.

Welfare Check

May 16

On 05/16/23 at approximately 7:34 PM, GPD was dispatched to 530 E. Third St. on a welfare check. The complainant, Jean Lore, came to GPD to request a welfare check on her 42 y/o son, John Lore, at 530 E. Third St. She stated she had not heard from him for several days and that he did not show up to work Monday or today which was unusual. Jean stated she stopped by his residence but the door was locked and she reported smelling a foul odor. Upon arrival, police found the front door standing all the way open, the screen door locked, and a light on inside the living room. All other doors were locked and police went around to the front to wait on other police. When other police arrived, the top screen was removed from the screen door and the handle was unlocked from the inside. Immediately upon entering the residence at 7:43PM, the decedent was located to the left slumped over on the couch and in a state of decomposition. Police cleared the residence for other subjects and then exited the residence. Police set up police line tape at the entrance to the porch and started a crime scene log. Det. Dickmann and Coroner’s Investigator Jay Pearson were contacted to respond. Det. Dickmann arrived at 8:15 PM and Jay Pearson at 8:20 PM and both were briefed.

May 18

On May 18th 2023 at 2:15 PM, police was dispatched to 1170 Sweitzer Street Greenville, Ohio 45331, Greenville Head Start daycare reference a welfare check. Police made contact with employees Michelle Hensley and Sasha Dicke. Michelle and Sasha are the preschool/daycare teachers of both Child Victim’s #1 and #2. Michelle and Sasha advised me that Derrick Gump the father of the Child Victims, had dropped the two children off for daycare earlier in the day and believed that he was on some sort of drug. They also advised that Derrick did not have car seats for the two children. While inside speaking with Michelle and Sasha, Derrick arrived to pick up the Child Victims. Upon making contact with Derrick in his listed 2000 red GMC, police observed several sores/scabs on Derrick’s face and arms. When speaking with Derrick he acted on edge and jittery, unable to stay still, in a constant state of motion. Derrick was slow to respond to questions when asked. Derrick denied medical treatment. Police observed in the back seat of Derrick’s vehicle no car seats for the Child Victims. Police asked Derrick if he was picking up his kids on how he was transporting them, Derrick said they sit in the back seat and he had car seats in the third row of the vehicle. In the third row police observed three car seats stacked on top of each other and they appeared to be broken. It was at this time Derrick contacted his father, Ricky Gump to pick up the Child Victims. Derrick gave police consent to search the vehicle and his person once he exited and no contraband was located. Derrick was released to his father. The listed vehicle was left in the parking lot to be picked up later by his mother, Jodie Turner who is the registered owner. The Child Victims were placed in the care of Derrick’s step mother, Lynne Gump who responded and picked them up. Statements were collected from Sasha and Michelle. Darke County Child Protective Services was contacted prior to this incident by Sasha and Michelle. Police contacted Darke County Child Protective Services and informed Teresa Maples of this incident. Teresa advised that she was familiar with the Child Victims and would wait for this report for follow up. This report was later forwarded to Teresa.

Assault

May 19

On May 19, 2023 at approximately 10:30 AM, while assigned as the School Resource Officer at the Greenville Highschool 100 Greenwave Way, police was notified by Greenville Highschool Assistant Principal Brent Short of a female student, who assaulted Pam Kimes, who is a teacher employed by Greenville City Schools. Mr. Short advised police the student was in class refusing to complete a test and get off her school issued Ipad. Mr. Short advised the student was told multiple times by Pam to put the Ipad away and turn it off in order to take her test. Mr. Short stated when Pam asked the student to give her the Ipad, the student punched Pam with a closed fist in the thigh. After speaking with Mr. Short, police was able to speak with Pam. Pam advised police during class time, the student was found to be on her school issued Ipad while a test was being given. Pam stated she advised the student several times to put the Ipad away in order to complete the test. Pam advised she found the student to have hidden the Ipad under her desk instead of putting it away. After seeing this, Pam stated she asked the student to give her the Ipad. Pam stated when she did this, the student became upset and struck her with a closed fist in her thigh. Pam stated she did not suffer any injuries from this strike, and due to this there were no injuries to photograph. Pam completed a witness statement form along with a victims rights form. Police then spoke with the student. The student admitted to striking Pam in the thigh with her closed fist after being asked to give her the Ipad. The student stated she did this because she was upset about having her Ipad taken away. Police completed a misdemeanor citation reference ORC 2903.13(A); Assault, and issued the student her copy of the citation. Police also notified the student’s guardian, Carrie Lock of the citation and incident.

Theft/Shoplifiting

May 20

On May 20, 2023 around 2:51 PM police was dispatched to Ace Hardware, 1241 E. Russ Rd. in reference to a theft that occurred the day before. Police spoke with manager, Dillon Hesson. Dillon informed police he was walking around the store when he came across the listed opened DieHard 12V 400 amp Jump Start power pack box with the power pack missing from it. Dillon went back and started reviewing video to provide evidence on how the power pack box arrived in hardware and was missing its contents. When reviewing the CCTV video from the day prior, May 19th he noticed a male suspect enter the store around 4:24 PM. The male then walks over to where the batteries are located and selects a DieHard 12v 400 amp power pack. The suspect carries it around the store for several minutes. After approximately 15 minutes in the store the suspect walks over to the hardware section. The suspect removes the battery pack from the box and places it on the shelf. The suspect then leaves the aisle, walks around for a minute, then returns to the aisle, where he picks up the battery pack again from the shelf that he put it on. The suspect puts the battery pack into his back pocket of his jeans, concealing the item. Eventually the suspect exited the store passing all points of payment, making no attempt to pay for the concealed battery pack on his person. Dillon was able to show police the video and police was able to identify the suspect as Thomas Lee who police is familiar with. Dillon was unable to give police anything at the time and stated it would be a few days before they were able to get police a copy of the video of the incident. Dillon did provide a verbal statement and wanted charges filed for theft. A statement form and victim’s rights waiver form was left. On May 21, 2023 around 2:25 PM Thomas Lee was located at E. Fifth St. and S. Broadway St. Police spoke to Thomas about this incident. Thomas denied any involvement or stealing any items. Thomas refused to fill out a statement. Thomas was issued a citation for theft and issued a warning for trespass from Ace Hardware. Thomas was released from the scene. On May 22, 2023 police went back to Ace Hardware. Police was given a written statement from manager, Sherry Hesson, along with a filled out victim rights waiver form. Sherry advised she would not be able to get police the video until May 23, 2023. On May 23, 2023 police went back to Ace Hardware. Sherry was able to place video from this incident onto the listed USB drive. The USB drive was taken and placed into property at the Greenville Police Department as evidence. The battery pack was never recovered and the cost was $110.

Domestic Violence

May 21

On May 21, 2023 at approximately 5:07 AM police was dispatched to 1199 Russ Road Apartment EB; Hunters Oak Apartments in reference to a report of domestic violence not in progress. Police learned that the complainant; Kevin Foster had called 911 and refused to identify who he was or where he was located. Dispatch was able to identify Kevin through the phone number that he contacted dispatch with. Kevin told dispatch that there had been an instance of domestic violence between him and his wife. Police made contact with Kevin’s wife now known to police as Kelly Foster at the residence. Kelly stated that she had an argument with Kevin who had began punching himself in his head before leaving the residence. Kelly stated that Kevin had not caused her any physical harm and that she had not caused any harm to Kevin either. Kelly did not appear to have any physical injuries besides slight redness to the knuckles of her left hand as well as a slight scratch to a knuckle on the same hand. Kelly gave permission to enter the residence and Kevin was not located inside the residence. While inside the residence it did not appear that a physical altercation had occurred inside. Kevin contacted dispatch back and denied to give any further information. During that phone call with dispatch it was noted that Kevin seemed to be more interested in trying to discover if Kelly had reported the domestic violence than anything else.
