Theft

June 7

On June 7th 2023 at 2:14 PM police was dispatched to 919 Brighton Drive, Greenville, Ohio 45331 in reference to a theft/scam. Police met with the complainant, Cindi Neanon and her mother/victim, Linda Neanon. Cindi advised that her mother Linda had met someone by the name of Brett Sackett on Facebook and was being scammed out of money online. Linda stated that in February 2023 she met Brett on Facebook then started dating shortly after. The relationship between Brett and Linda was never physical and only conducted online. Brett had informed Linda that he was from Alaska, working on an oil pipeline and had run into financial trouble, asking Linda for about $14,000 early on. Linda did not give Brett the $14,000. Shortly after, Brett deleted his Facebook account. Linda and Brett then started texting through google chat. Linda later deleted the google chat messages due to Brett’s instructions. In Early April of 2023, Brett told Linda that he had run into more financial trouble and needed more money for equipment. On May 8th 2023, Linda sent cashiers checks of $135,500 to a Debora Allen at 1955 11th Street Los Osos, California 93402 through Fed-Ex. On May 12th 2023 Linda sent another cashiers check of $58,900 to a Mark Boynton at 1733 E. Ridge Drive Fuquay Varina, North Carolina 27526, through Fed-Ex. Linda believed that the money she was sending was for Brett to help pay for the repairs of his machinery, with the intentions that he was going to pay her back. Linda stated that on June 6th 2023, Linda asked Eric Laux, a family friend for money. Linda told Eric the money was to help out her boyfriend, Brett who needed more money. Eric did not give her any money and notified Cindi about Linda asking for money. Cindi then spoke with Linda about the situation and subsequently notified GPD after learning that Linda was scammed. Police informed Linda that Brett was not real and that this was an online scam to get her to send money. Linda did not believe police, and believed that Brett was a real person who had feelings for her. Cindi stated that she is caring for Linda and will help her further financially. Cindi and Linda were given a report number and informed to contact Linda’s bank (Greenville National Bank) to inform them of the scam. A written statement was collected from Linda, please see statement for further details. A victim rights form was also collected from Linda. Linda currently does not have any documentation of her communication with Brett due to deleting everything per Brett’s instructions. On June 13th 2023, Cindi E-mailed police copies of both cashiers checks and the Fed-Ex shipping information of where the cashiers checks went. Police will follow up on the addresses the checks were mailed to.

Drug Paraphernalia

June 9

On June 09, 2023 at approximately 10:11 PM while on patrol, police observed a 2003 Chevrolet truck parked in the parking lot of 1350 Sweitzer Street; Speedway. Police passed the vehicle and observed Nicholas Neal sitting in the driver’s seat. The vehicle is registered to Elizabeth Garland, who is Nicholas’s mother. Police checked LEADS/NCIC and learned that Nicholas’ s driving privileges are under several active suspensions. Police then observed Nicholas drive out of the parking lot and begin traveling southbound on the 1300 block of Sweitzer Street. Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with Nicholas. Nicholas admitted to knowing that his driving privileges are suspended. Nicholas then called Elizabeth on his cellular phone. Police asked Elizabeth why she allowed Nicholas to drive her vehicle, when she knows his driver’s license is suspended, and Elizabeth stated that she let Nicholas drive the vehicle to get to and from work. Police then asked Nicholas to exit the vehicle, and he asked if he could get a cigarette from the vehicle. Nicholas consented to a search of the vehicle, and police opened the cigarette package in the front console of the vehicle which contained a used syringe. Nicholas stated that the syringe belonged to him. Police located a black container with twenty-eight used syringes inside, concealed under the passenger seat. Nicholas stated that the container and syringes belong to him. Nicholas was placed into handcuffs and read the Miranda warning, which he stated he understood. Nicholas then stated that he used the syringes to inject methamphetamine. The syringes were seized, and Nicholas was issued citations reference drug abuse instruments and driving under suspension before being released. Elizabeth’s vehicle was towed by Hotrods towing. Elizabeth was issued a citation reference wrongful entrustment.

Assault

June 11

On June 11, 2023 at approximately 3:51 AM police was dispatched to 1195 Russ Road; Holiday Inn in reference to a welfare check. Police spoke with the complainant who stated that he thought that he observed an individual under his vehicle. There was nobody around the area and the vehicle did not appear to have been tampered with. During the investigation police was approached by an individual now known to police as Layton Sullivan who stated that he had been assaulted by his partner now known to police as Jadyn Myers. Jadyn was found to be who the complainant had originally called about. Police made contact with Jadyn who stated that Layton had assaulted her during an argument. Both parties involved had minor scrapes and denied wanting to be victims or wanting to press charges. EMS was called to the scene and Layton denied treatment. A keep the peace was initiated while Layton gathered his belongings and both parties were separated.

Theft and Trespass

June 7

On June 7, 2023 at approximately 1:57 AM policeresponded to Hamilton Auto Sales, 141 North Broadway in reference to a suspicious person and suspicious vehicle complaint. Other police also responded to Hamilton Auto Sales to assist this officer. Police spoke to the complainant Gary Hannan. Gary advised he was driving in the area of North Broadway when he observed two to three males run from the Derkson Automotive parking lot, 200 North Broadway towards Hamilton Auto Sales. One of the unknown males was carrying a Sawzall while running. The unknown males entered a dark blue Chevy 3500 truck and left the area northbound on North Broadway. Gary Hannan did not have a cell phone so he left the area and went to Greenville Police Department to advise of the complaint. Gary returned to Hamilton Auto Sales to speak to officers. Police checked all vehicles in the parking lot of Derkson Automotive and Hamilton Auto Sales. It appeared no catalytic converters had been taken and no damages were done to any of the vehicles. Police checked the area for the blue Chevy truck. At approximately 2:21 AM, while checking the parking lot of Superior Auto, 1535 Wagner Avenue, police observed headlights from a vehicle that was behind Lowes, 1550 Wagner Avenue. Police drove into the parking lot of Lowes and observed a dark blue Chevy 3500 truck bearing Indiana license plates traveling from the rear of Lowes towards the front of Lowes, near the garden center. Police observed the truck bed contained a refrigerator. Police activated the overhead lights and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of Lowes and other police arrived to assist. During the investigation it was learned the driver, Michael Williams, passenger, James Ferrell, and passenger Cody Woodall were all from Indiana and looking for scrap metal. All three males were advised to exit the vehicle and separated. All three males were questioned about the refrigerator in the bed of the truck. Williams advised he had picked the refrigerator up from a Lowes in Indianapolis, IN for scrap. Ferrell advised the refrigerator was picked up after they delivered another refrigerator to an unknown person in Greenville, OH. Woodall was unaware of the location the refrigerator was picked up from but advised Williams had the refrigerator in the truck bed when Woodall was picked up by Williams in Greenwood, IN. Police made contact with Lowes key holder/manager, John Giddinge via telephone. Giddinge was advised of the situation at Lowes. Giddinge stated the only place the suspects could have stolen a refrigerator from Lowes was from the unlocked trailer that is sitting on the Southside of Lowes parking lot. Giddinge advised the appliances in the unlocked trailer are sent to be recycled and are not of value to Lowes. Giddinge advised he did not wish to pursue theft charges regarding the refrigerator. Giddinge advised the suspects could keep the refrigerator. During this investigation, police observed a Sawzall in the rear seat of the suspect’s truck. Police did not observe any catalytic converters or any other possible stolen items in the truck. It does not appear at the time of this investigation, the Sawzall was used in any criminal act. No charges were filed due to no victims and no evidence that the Sawzall had been used as a criminal tool.

Nuisances

June 12

On 6-12-23 it was reported that 415 Martin St. had a junk motor vehicle on the property. Police located the listed 1997 Chevrolet and it appears the vehicle has not moved for months and was not operable. There was also grass growing around the vehicle that was very high. A Junk Motor Vehicle notice was left in the mailbox of apartment #1 for Angela Schmitt who is also the owner of the listed vehicle. On 6-14-23 contact was made with Angela’s brother who advised police that Angela got the JMV notice and is going to call police.Police does not have a phone number for Angela at this time. SSD Ryan Delk and the zoning office were emailed.

Shoplifiting

June 13

On June 13, 2023 at approximately 2:17 AM police was dispatched to 201 Wagner Avenue; Speedway North in reference to a report of shoplifting. Police patrolled the area the suspects had last been seen traveling. Police was unable to locate the suspects so police went to Speedway North to gather information. Police spoke with witness/ employee, Tyler Crabtree who stated that he observed two unknown black male suspects enter the store. After entering the store one suspect kept glancing towards the register and went directly to the refrigerator where the alcoholic beverages are displayed. Tyler observed the suspect open the refrigerator door and take two 24 ounce cans of Twisted Tea from where they were displayed. The other suspect went to the bathroom before going to the refrigerator where the first suspect was located. Tyler observed the second suspect open the refrigerator and also take two 24 ounce cans of Twisted Tea from where they were displayed. Tyler confronted the suspects at the register as they purchased a single bag of candy using cash. The suspects exited the business without paying for the cans of Twisted Tea. Tyler exited the business after the suspects and observed them enter a black or dark blue Chevrolet with a possible Ohio plate of HBI/HVI296229 that was parked at one of the fuel pumps. Tyler observed approximately 3 other passengers seated in the back of the vehicle. The vehicle with all of its occupants was last seen traveling northbound on Wagner Avenue after exiting the Speedway parking lot. The suspects were described as two black males with one wearing a black sweatshirt and black pants. The other suspect was wearing a grey sweatshirt with the hood covering his head and jeans. The license plate that Tyler captured was searched through LEADS and Spillman using several different variations but no vehicles were able to be located. The approximate value of the cans of Twisted Tea is $12. Tyler was given a witness statement and victims right form to complete at a later time. Police will return to the store to view and collect video footage of the incident when a manager with access is present. On June 13, 2023 at approximately 5:00 AM police returned to Speedway and collected the witness statement and victim rights forms. Police also spoke with Manager, Nicole Deal who showed police the video footage from the incident. Nicole gave police a copy of the video footage on a CD. Pictures of the suspects were printed and placed into the briefing log. At this time there are no charges pending identification of the suspects.

Welfare Check

June 13

On 6-13-23 officers were dispatched to 117 Meadowgreen Dr. on a welfare check. Upon arrival the residence was found secured. The complainant, Amy Meade who is a friend stated that the female resident was a no call, no show at work today and was complaining of health problems. After exhausting all means to gain entry into the residence, the front door was forced open by the Greenville Fire Department. The female was located inside a bedroom on the floor, needing medical attention. The female was transported to Wayne Hospital and the residence was secured. The property owner and the complainant were notified via telephone. Photos of the damage were taken.

Sex Offense

June 13

On 6-13-23 police met with victim, Tracey Tryon at the Greenville Cemetery where he works. Tracey advised that he received a text message from phone number (937) 809 – 3017 on 6-12-23 at 3: 44PM. Unknown Suspect from this number sent a video and message “You into this kinda stiff. ” The text show Tracey responded with, “Who is this?” The suspect then sent “yes or no” followed by another video. In both videos it shows a male penis and a juvenile performing oral sex. Tracey responded to the suspect by saying, “I don’t know who the hell you are well that’s sick using kids I’m gonna show this to the police and your number on the text I hope you know”. The suspect responds with “Okay. I’ll leave you alone.”. The next day, 6-13-23, the suspect sends a text saying, “Hey sorry about yesterday. I only sent it to you hoping you was into that and you had some you could send to me.” Tracey was asked to sign a Consent to Search form for his phone and he did. His phone was brought to GPD station. Discussion was held about the phone and incident with police. Police searched the phone number through a reverse phone number lookup. No owner information was located. This usually means that the person is using a program to block the number. Police manually went through the phone looking for evidence. Nothing further was located. The phone was factory reset after Tracey was able to retrieve his contact numbers. Phone was given back after the reset. He was advised to block the number and not open videos or links from unknown persons in the future. No known suspects or further leads at this time.

Wanted Person/Fugitive from Justice

June 13

On June 13th 202,3 at about 2:21 PM, while on routine patrol in the city of Greenville, police observed a blue Ford Focus bearing JYV2891 near the intersection of West fourth Street and South Broadway. When checking the license plate through LEADS/NCIC it was discovered that the registered owner Abby Lingo, had an active Felony warrant out of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana. Police conducted a traffic stop with the listed vehicle, in the parking lot of 501 Wagner Avenue, Wendy’s. Police made contact with the driver of the vehicle. The driver was confirmed to be the registered owner of the vehicle. Police also observed a small child in a car seat in the back seat of the vehicle. Police asked Abby to step out of the vehicle which she complied. It was at this time that police asked Abby to step back near the front of the patrol vehicle, where she was placed under arrest in handcuffs. Abby was then searched incident to arrest and no contraband was found. Abby was then placed in the back seat of the patrol vehicle. It was at this time that other police mirandized Abby and gave consent to search her vehicle. Contact was made with Michelle Khun, Abby’s aunt, to pick up Abby’s daughter. GPD dispatch confirmed through LEADS/NCIC that Abby had an active warrant for dangerous drugs-maintaining communication. After Michelle arrived on scene, Abby was then transported to Darke County Jail where she was incarcerated and pending extradition, no bond.
