Harold “Deo” Furlong, age 84, of Arcanum, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Village Green Health Campus, Greenville, Ohio on Monday, January 1, 2024. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Arcanum, Ohio to Emerson and Joy (Hygema) Furlong.
Deo is survived by his wife of 59 years Pamela A. (Althouse) Furlong. His children Susan (Furlong) Spires of Pitsburg, Ohio and Steve (Candace) Furlong also of Pitsburg, Ohio. He also leaves behind his grandchildren – Kylie Furlong of Columbus, Ohio, Derek Lusher of Columbus, Ohio, Madison Furlong (Ethan) Wilkerson of Arcanum, Ohio, Hayleigh Spires of Pitsburg, Ohio, and Ty Furlong of Pitsburg, Ohio.
Deo’s living siblings include Dean (Karen) Furlong, Phyllis Pettifor, and Shirley Riffle; sisters-in-law Carolyn and Sharon; brother-in-law Warren. He is preceded in death by brothers Keith and Bob Furlong; sisters Marilyn Leslie, Carol Lupi, and Elaine Furlong; brothers-in-law Dale and Keith. He is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Deo lived in the Arcanum area all his life except for the four years he served in the United States Marine Corp. After returning from his military service, he worked for Dayton Power & Light Co. as a lineman for 34 years retiring in 1994. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and mowing his lawn. He watched over and cared for his grandchildren. He enjoyed family gatherings and helping others. His favorite foods included anything chocolate and all of Pam’s home-cooked meals.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, 284 N. Miami St. West Milton, OH 45383. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM, with Pastor Brandon Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Mote Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Deo’s honor may be given to Alzheimer’s Association or EverHeart Hospice, 1350 N. Broadway St. Greenville, OH 45331.
