Harold Duane Hoover, commonly known as “Skip”, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Reid Health at the age of 82.
He was born on May 1, 1941, in Gilmore County, West Virginia, to the late Harold Duane Williams and Helen Pearl (Lamb) Hoover.
In addition to his birth parents, Skip was also preceded in death by his adoptive father, Kenneth E. Hoover.
Skip is survived by his wife of 21 years, Patricia “Pat” (Spiller) Hoover, who he married on May 11, 2002; his children, Christal (Mark) Ranes of Kalida, Ohio, and Joseph (Jona) Hoover of Greenville; his grandchildren, Catherine (Blayne) Dickerson, Cassaundra (Alex) Shreve, Coy (Alicia) McConnell, JohnRey Abao, and Emma Hoover; great grandchildren, Ember, Silas, Jordyn, Elijah, Jai; and 6 step-grandchildren. Skip is also survived by Pat’s children, Henry (Janet) Spiller, Michael (Vanessa) Spiller, Christopher Spiller, Mary (Trent) Gibson, and her 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
Skip was a graduate of New Madison High School. In his youth, he was an active Boy Scout and earned the Eagle Scout rank. He then joined the United States Navy, where he served for 6 years active duty and retired from the Navy Reserves after 24 years of total service. Skip worked D.A.Fitzgerald and then FPE, where he retired as a tool and die journayman.
Skip was a Master of the Fort Black Masonic Lodge and a current member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge. He was also a very active member of the New Madison American Legion Post 245, where he served as Commander and was also a past County Commander. Skip was a Master Gardener in Wayne County and loved to tend to his vegetables garden. Aside from his many activites, Skip was most proud to be dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
A graveside service, with full military honors, will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison.
