Herman J. Kolb, 108, of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away, peacefully at his home, on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.
He was born on November 24, 1913, in Oxford, Ohio, to the late Louis and Irma (Dinwiddie) Kolb.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his brother, Karl Kolb; and his sisters, Helena Keeler and Edith Powell.
Herman was a lifelong farmer, specializing in purebred sheep, and also raised cattle and crops. However, border collies were the true love of his life. He bought his farm in 1957 with his wife, Velma, whom he met at a dance at LeSourdesville Lake. Herman was known for his expertise in sheep and was a judge at the Darke County Fair for three consecutive years. He was crowned the “oldest fair goer” in 2021. Herman has touched many lives and has left many marks in the community and will be missed.
Herman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Velma (Brand) Kolb; and his daughter, Elaine Kolb of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Herman’s life will be held at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Greenville Union Cemetery.
His family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
