JoAnn M. Burton age 86, of New Madison passed away at 12:18 pm Sunday, July 2, 2023, at her residence.
JoAnn was born October 1, 1936, in Scott County, Kentucky, to the late Joe & Mollie (Hedger) Rodger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hobert C. Burton on February 9, 2017, whom she married June 26, 1954; son, Elva Joe Burton; grandson, Derick Burton; and son-in-law, Gene Wendel.
JoAnn is survived by her children, David Burton of New Madison, Danny Burton of Greenville, Lois (Burton) Wendel of New Madison, Alan & Vickie Burton of New Madison, Chris & Cindy Burton of Greenville and Greg & Georgia Burton of Urbana; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings, JW Rodgers of Kentucky, Luvon Rodgers of Kentucky, and Sylvia Jones of Kentucky; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Helen & Jack Burgess of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was a homemaker. She was a member of The New Beginning Church in Greenville, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was the former secretary and treasurer. JoAnn showed her strong faith in God through her Christian Walk and showed love to everyone she met. She loved her children, grandchildren and Church family. She enjoyed reading her Bible. She was an excellent gardener, cook and seamstress.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, July 7, 2023, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Dennis Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
