LEGAL NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the Civil Service Commission of the City of Greenville, Darke County, Ohio, will hold an evaluation for the position of Emergency Communications Operator (ECO) for the Police Department of the City of Greenville, Ohio. Applications will be accepted until Friday, February 21, 2025. Once the submitted applications are received by the commission, applicants will be contacted to arrange a date and time for an evaluation.
Requirements: Eligible applicants must have attained the age of 18 on or before the date of the Civil Service evaluation; have a valid driver’s license; and have a high school diploma or GED as of February 21, 2025. Applicants must also be citizens of the United States of America or have legally declared their intentions of becoming a United States citizen. In addition to passing the Civil Service evaluation, applicants must pass a background check, polygraph, medical and psychological exams, and a drug screen. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the Civil Service evaluation.
Salary: The 2025 salary ranges from $22.39 to $27.80 hourly, plus benefits.
Job Description: ECOs will be assigned to Dispatch duties and Records Clerk duties. ECOs are also responsible for the same basic duties as sworn personnel: protection of life and property; preserving the peace; preventing crimes; and the detection & apprehension of violators. ECOs have no arrest powers, but use of communication skills (via phone and radio) is necessary in performing the following duties: answering telephone complaints; dispatching the proper police, fire and/or rescue personnel; maintaining radio contact with the proper emergency personnel; operating the LEADS/NCIC computer systems; keeping records of calls for service; and abiding by the rules and regulations established by the FCC. ECOs must also obey the orders and instructions of the shift Officer in Charge for business that is related to the particular watch and perform other functions that the administration deems necessary for the efficient operations of the Greenville Police Department.
Addition of Credits: To be considered for a Uniformed Service credit of 20%, the applicant must be a resident of the State of Ohio and submit a copy of their certificate of service or honorable discharge from active duty. To be considered for a reserve component of the armed forces (including the Ohio National Guard) credit of 15%, applicants must submit proof of completion of initial entry-level training with completed application. Applicants must pass the Civil Service evaluation prior to any eligible credits being added.
Any interested person can obtain an application online at cityofgreenville.org or from the Office of the Mayor, City of Greenville Municipal Building, 100 Public Square, Greenville, Ohio 45331, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Fridays. All applications must be completed and returned to the Office of the Mayor by noon on Friday, February 21, 2025, to be eligible for an evaluation by the Civil Service Commission. A government photo I.D. must be presented to the examining officer to gain admission to the evaluation.
