John R. Mikesell, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
He was born on October 14, 1931, in Darke County to the late Bert and Treva (Lantz) Mikesell.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Connie (Hall) Mikesell; and his 3 sisters and 8 brothers.
John grew up near Hollansburg, Ohio. After high school John served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He married Connie Hall following his service and they were married for over 50 years. He went to college and then he spent his career working as the office manager for numerous car dealerships. John will be remembered as quite the entrepreneur. In 1958, he and Connie started the first pizza tent concession at the Great Darke County Fair. John went on to own several restaurants and mobile concessions. He also helped family members start their own restaurants and concessions.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Englewood, the Greenville VFW and several car clubs. He collected antique cars and attended many car shows winning numerous ribbons and awards. He and Connie enjoyed going to auctions, antiquing and wintering in Florida.
John is survived by his children, Reed (Lisa) Mikesell of St. Henry, Ohio, Kelly (Charles) Zell of Arcanum, Ohio and Molly (Wayne) Mogge of Cynthiana, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Lanee (Brett) Saunders, Andy (Kelcie) Mikesell, Ally (Thomas) Grueter, Ryan Mikesell, Kaitlyn Zell, Jessica (Chris) Haubner, Lucas Mogge, Shelby Mogge and Caden Mogge; great-grandchildren, Charolette Saunders, Carter and Quinn Mikesell and Hadley Haubner; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Private burial to take place in Abbotsville Cemetery at a later date.
John’s family will be receiving guests on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
