There is of course, much that can be said about this Holy Season. But rather than submit one more random opinion on it, I thought I’d share a few quotes from others who are certainly more well-placed, and probably more learned and reflective.
But first: Let me wish Peace to all, in this continually troubled world, and even in our own very blessed country, where goodness and plenty should frame every day, but where instead, conflict and divide find their way to the forefront much too easily, and far too often.
Hopefully, we can all think about the true “Spirit of Christmas”, and what that should mean to each of us, as we read these words below, and absorb their thoughts as well, while attempting to move forward and make our world, and that of others, a much better place.
Please enjoy:
—“A Good Conscience is a Continual Christmas.” –Ben Franklin
—“Love the Giver, More Than the Gift.” –Brigham Young
—“Christmas is Doing a Little Something Extra for Someone.”
–Charles Schulz (of “Peanuts” fame)
—“Christmas is Love in Action. Every Time We Love, Every Time We Give, ….It’s Christmas.” –Dale Evans (Roy Rogers’ wife)
— “….We Are Better Throughout the Year, in Spirit, for Having Become a Child Again, at Christmas Time.”
–Laura Ingalls Wilder (wrote “Little House on the Prairie”)
—“I Have Always Thought of Christmas as a Good Time; …a Kind, Forgiving, Charitable, Pleasant Time.” -Charles Dickens
—Dickens also promised, thoughtfully: “I Will Honor Christmas in My Heart, and Try to Keep It, …All the Year.”
—“Christmas is a Necessity. There Has to Be at Least One Day a Year to Remind Us that We’re Here for Something Else, …Besides Ourselves.” –Eric Sevareid (late CBS Journalist, and author)
—Sevareid also spoke to us, a bit more contemplatively: “As Long as We Know in Our Hearts What Christmas Ought to Be, ….Christmas Is.”
—“Oh, But I Wish You Joy, …and I Wish You Happiness, But Above All of This, …I Wish You Love.”
–Dolly Parton (from “I Will Always Love You”, the Theme Song for the movie “The Bodyguard”, and made famous by Whitney Houston)
—“My Idea of Christmas, whether Old Fashioned or Modern, is Very Simple: Loving Others. But Come to Think of It, Why Do we have to Wait for Christmas, …to Do That?” –Bob Hope
—“And in The End, the Love you Take, is Equal to the Love you Make.”
–Paul McCartney & John Lennon (from their “Abbey Road” album)
–Paul and John earlier wrote, very simply and obviously, but no less brilliantly: “All You Need is Love.”
A lot of deep and wonderful feelings and thoughts to ponder, regarding this special season. But none of which should be limited to this time of year, nor interpreted as being anything close to selfishness, nor anything less than righteousness.
Peace, Love, and Joy to everyone. And as has been suggested so well above, let’s all try to make this season last the entire year long.
Merry Christmas!
