The U.S. Auto Tech National Championship was created to showcase skills of auto technician professionals and students across the country. Auto Technicians were invited to participate in the National Championship in Tampa.
Qualifying events were held across the Nation as well as digitally and at each event one professional (and one student) qualified for the next phase of the competition, which was the Round of 32.
From there (the competition of the 32) the top 16 have been invited to compete in the Championship Week events in Tampa, Florida.
At the end of the event, Tyler Anderson, owner of Elite Truck & Auto Repair (5250 Meeker Rd., Greenville, OH 45331) was the winner in the category “Professionals”.
Tyler, who serves with his shop Elite Truck & Auto Repair Greenville, Union City, Winchester, and surrounding areas since 2016, learned about the Championship online and first wondered whether this is real but after some research he signed up, participated in the qualifying event and from there went through all steps until eventually winning the Championship.
“They had on-site physical and also written tests as a knowledge test.” Anderson explained.
“Then they flew the 16 finalists out to Tampa for a physical contest. There were two rounds, where you had to rebuild a drive shaft, do suspension work and you had to explain the procedure how you did it”, Anderson described the process of the Championship, “in the third and final round, the 4 finalists from the second round had to do engine work, from diagnosis to the repair and verification of the repair, and the contestants were judged on time and the procedures.”
As winner of the Championship, Anderson took home a check for $40,000 – besides the title of being the best tech in the nation.
Asked about whether the money is more “personal” or more “business money”, Tyler said: “It’s a little bit of both. Me and my wife are expecting so I got her more of a ‘Mom-Car’”
Congratulations to Tyler Anderson for his achievement (and also to him and his wife for the expected family addition).
