July 13th is a big day in Eldora’s history.
Tony Stewart, owner of Eldora Speedway, has posted the largest purse in short track history and after 50 laps, Logan Schuchart grabbed the Million bucks (precisely: $1,002,023) in a start to finish victory with a few breaks/re-starts because of blown tires and crashes, with a packed house watching. Logan was the fastest man overall the day before and was able to take this speed to the next day into the BIG race.
Carson Macedo came in second and earned $100.000, Brad Sweet, who won his Eldora Million preliminary feature on Wednesday claimed $50.000 for his 3rd place.
All three drivers won their heat races earlier that day.
Schuchart said that he doesn’t have the words in his vocabulary to describe the way he feels after winning this race. “This team, I can’t say enough about them. They work so hard, they gave me a great car and now I’m sitting here” Logan said.
Second placed Carson Macedo said that he knew he wouldn’t be able to catch up to Schuchart during the race.
Brad Sweet said that of course they all wanted to win the Million but at the end only one could be the winner, but just the opportunity to race for one Million dollars is really special and nobody can take away this feeling of being part of such a historic moment.
But not just the three men on the podium went home with more money in their pockets than they had when they arrived, one of the fans was a big winner himself (or herself?) and won more than 100 Grand in the 50/50 raffle.
Although the 1 Million Dollar race was a very special event, there is more this weekend: this Friday is “the knight before” and on Saturday is the 40th Kings Royal with $175,000 for the winner.
