Lois Newman, 79, of Covington, passed away early Thursday morning, September 21, 2023, at Kettering Health, Troy. She was born November 24, 1943, in Covington, to the late Roy and Alice (Young) Thompson.
She will be missed and remembered by her children, Marvin Schilling (Connie Kniesly) of Butternut, Wisc., Todd (Karrie) Newman of Glenwood, Iowa and Nickie Wright of Troy; eight grandchildren, Kyle (Jayme) Newman, Heather (Bill) Wilson, Cody (Brandi) Newman, Tristan (Autumn) Wright, Jaden Wright, Morgen (Austen) Alber, Erik Brooks, and Liam Wright; seven great-grandchildren, Bret & Aubrey Wilson, Reece & Laynie Wright, Scarlett Coleman, and Hudsen & Olsen Alber; and two brothers, Marvin (Rhoda) Thompson of Covington and Steve (Linda) Thompson of Troy; and good friend Donna Wright of Troy.
Lois grew up in Covington and attended Covington Schools. She was a member of the Covington Church of the Brethren. She retired as the apartment manager of Greenville Village, and had also worked for the V.F.W. Post #4235 and Maier’s IGA. She was a member of the Covington Eagles Auxiliary, a life member of Amvets Post #66, and served on the Covington Village Council for 11 years. Lois enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat with the “Golden Girls”, and spending time with her family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, at Moore Funeral Home, 10 S. High St., Covington, with Pastor Michael Yingst officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Covington. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
