Margaret “Peggy” Griffin, wife of the late Raymond R. Griffin, returned to the love of Ray, family and friends who preceded her on October 22, 2022.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary K. Maxwell, granddaughters Maggie Maxwell Morales (Jaime), Katie Highfield Neeb (Kyler) and Annie Highfield, great-granddaughters Olivia and Lydia Morales, son-in-law Kevin Highfield and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, daughter, Sue Highfield, and grandson David Maxwell.
A graduate of the IU School of Nursing with her RN, she worked as a surgical nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson as well as at the hospital in Union City and, most recently, in the office of Dr. Jerome Leahy. She invited Ray Griffin to her senior prom; he was serving in the Army at the time, an older man in uniform, and she was smitten. They married in 1949 and were only separated by his death on June 23, 2022, after his fall in the parking lot at one of their favorite restaurants. They moved to Union City for Ray’s job in the early 1950s and lived on the same street for almost 70 years. Following Ray’s death, Peggy moved to assisted living facilities where she passed peacefully in her sleep almost four months after his death. Ray and Peggy were active in their community, at Wesley UMC and with their daughters’ and granddaughters’ various activities.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation for Peggy at Reichard Funeral Home, 400 W. Deerfield Road, Union City, IN on Friday, December 2 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and to a memorial service at Wesley United Methodist Church, 515 W. Oak Street, Union City, IN on Saturday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in her name may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Union City.
