Marilyn Jean Herbert, 85, a long-time resident of New Madison, Ohio, died peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Sunrise of Bloomingdale, Illinois.
She was born November 6, 1937, in Winchester, Indiana, to the late Walter and Isabelle (Boolman) Retz.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert, whom she married on June 17, 1960.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Susan (John) Gulliford of Schamburg, Illinois, Michael Herbert of Dayton, Ohio, and Jacqueline (Greg) Gates of Fortville, Indiana; and her 7 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Marilyn was a graduate of New Madison High School. She continued her education at Indiana University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Marilyn was the first college graduate in her family. She worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years for various hospitals. Marilyn loved animals, especially cats. Her beloved cat, Spooky, was by her side until the end.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison.
Guests may visit with the family on Friday from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
