Martin J. “Marty” Meyer age 84, devoted husband, wonderful father, grandfather and family man of Greenville passed away at 4:53 am Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Troy Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Marty was born April 2, 1938, in Miamisburg to the late Alvin & Ruth (Ferguson) Meyer. Marty was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Charles Leber; and brother, Charles Meyer.
Marty is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sharon L. (Hunt) Meyer whom he married December 25, 1958; son, Scott A. Meyer of Washington, Illinois; daughter & son-in-law, Terri L. & Lance Leber of Greenville; grandchildren, Luke Leber of Greenville, Aaron & Kelley Leber of Greenville and Andrew Meyer of Normal, Illinois; and great-granddaughters, Leena Leber and Olivia Leber.
Marty served in the U.S. Army Security Agency during the Cold War in Germany. Marty retired after 29 years of service as Sales Manager for Marietta Soap Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 140 where he served on the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard and the Darke County Aero Modelers Association. He volunteered at the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton. Marty loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed flying his radio controlled airplanes, playing with his grandsons and great-granddaughters. Marty will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
A celebration of Marty’s life will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Darke County or the Greenville American Legion Post 140.
