Mary Alice Ward

Mary Alice Ward, 95, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Ayden Healthcare in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on August 11, 1926, in rural Darke County to the late Richard and Laura (Beetley) Straker.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Ward. They were married on March 17, 1946 and he passed away on February 9, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her siblings, Dorothy (Howard) Ridout, Eugene Straker, and Marcella Straker.

Mary was a graduate of New Madison High School. She spent several years working for New Madison High School as a cafeteria worker. Mary also worked for Neff Lettering in Greenville as a seamstress until she retired in the late 90s. In her free time, Mary enjoyed working outdoors and taking care of the yard. She loved watching high school and college basketball and was a former member of the Eta Pi Kappa Sorority. Mary’s family was her pride and joy. She loved supporting them in all their endeavors and would rarely miss their sporting events.

Mary is survived by her children, Dick (Linda) Ward of New Paris, Ohio, Sue (Ray) Sanders of New Madison, Ohio, and Brenda (Lyle) Falknor of Bellevue, Ohio; her grandchildren, Laurie (Tony) Kirchner of New Madison, Ohio, Greg (Lori) Ward of Mesa, Arizona, Randy (Virginia) Ward of Tiffin, Ohio, Rob (Mindy) Gillen of Lima, Ohio, Jon (Stephanie) Gillen of Greenville, South Carolina, Dan (Brandi) Gillen of Georgetown, Kentucky, Dawn (Dave) Macke of Sidney, Ohio, Ryan (Erin) Falknor of Huron, Ohio, David Falknor of Bellevue, Ohio, and Ben Falknor of North Ridgeville, Ohio; her 23 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary will be laid to rest during a graveside service on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. All are welcome to attend.
