Mary Ann Grisez

Mary Ann Grisez, born May 31, 1933, was a resident of Vandalia and Willowdell, Ohio. She died October 28, 2021 at Hospice of Miami County in Troy. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her son, Jed Wegner Grisez; daughter-law Lisa Taylor Grisez; granddaughters Emily Taylor Pollitz of Archbold, Ohio; Anne Taylor Grisez of Cincinnati; grandson-in-law Eric Pollitz of Archbold; great-grandchildren Lucy Jane Pollitz and James David Pollitz of Archbold; sister Bonnie Robinson of Lebanon; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marilyn and Joseph Staudt of Williamstown, West Virginia. Mary was an aunt of Gene and Karen Robinson of Lebanon and great-aunt of Sara Robinson of Columbus and Jack Robinson of Lebanon; aunt of Jeff and Paula Staudt of Marietta and great-aunt of Sophia and Anna of Marietta; aunt of Glenda and Gordon Tron of Casstown and great-aunt of Jeffrey and Jennifer.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Otto Karl Wegner and Vera Olt Wegner; husband James Henry Grisez; sisters and brothers-in-law Johnie Robinson; Nancy and Robert Schumacher; Barbara and Raymond Johnston; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Harry Straker.

Mary received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Miami University in Oxford. She was a teacher and a librarian at Versailles Elementary School. She was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Vandalia and Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell where she served on several committees.

Mary loved books, antiques, nature, calligraphy, traveling, cross-country skiing, theater, history and homemaking. And she loved her family.

Mary loved bluebirds and butterflies. She was so proud of her bluebird houses along Willowdell Road. Her butterfly garden reflects her appreciation for nature and preservation of the environment.

She was an advocate for education and libraries and for preserving local history. Especially history of the Versailles area through her support of the Versailles Area Museum.

There will be a small, private family service in consideration of the pandemic at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
