Mary Elizabeth Short

June 21, 1939  –  December 19, 2022

Mary Elizabeth Short, 83, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022.

She was born on June 21, 1939, in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Chester and Miriam (Hall) Riffell.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Short; her grandson, Christopher Short; her great grandchildren, Saoirse Chapin, and Christopher Savage; her siblings, Arthur Riffell, Evangeline Hinkle and her husband, Charles, and Keith Riffell; her son-in-law, Steven Chapin; and her brother-in-law William Trevan.

Mary was a life-long member of Pleasant View Missionary Church. She was a minister’s wife and devoted her life to the church. She had a special place in her heart for children and was very active in leading vacation bible schools and other children’s ministries.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Short and his wife Tina, of Arcanum, Ohio, Jodi Savage and her husband, Dale, of Arcanum, and Miriam Rogers of Greenville; her grandchildren, Amanda Short, Ian Savage and his wife Charlesta, Christian Savage and his wife, Calah, Catherine Miller and her husband, David, Rozella Dickerson and her husband, Paul, Benjamin Savage, Steven Chapin and his wife, Carissa, Raymond Chapin, and Anna Chavez. Mary is also survived by her great grandchildren, McKenzie, Deonna, KeLani, Kirsten, Colton, Kyler, Carson, Kohler, Kinsley, Cameron, Caiden, Cambria, Christian Jr., Brooklynn, Lauren, Samwise, and 17 foster great grandchildren; her siblings, Janice Trevan, and Gene Riffell and his wife Phyllis; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Riffell and Shirley Riffell.

A funeral service for Mary will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant View Missionary Church, 5231 Gettysburg-Pitsburg Road, Greenville, Ohio 45331, with Pastor Sean Martin officiating. Burial will be at Gettysburg Cemetery.

Her family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral at 2:00 PM at Pleasant View Missionary Church.
