Mary Kathleen Floyd

Mary Kathleen Floyd, 88, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away late Saturday afternoon at the EverHeart Hospice Care Center.

She was born on September 13, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late Ralph A. and Irene G. (Howard) Gauvey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard D. Floyd, Sr.; her two sons, Willard D. Floyd, Jr., and John C.R. Floyd; her two grandsons, Eddy Floyd, and John A. Floyd; and her brother, Dr. Ralph E. Gauvey.

Kathleen was a retired school teacher, having taught at St. Mary’s School in Greenville for 23 years. She also served as an adjunct professor at Edison State Community College until she was appointed to the Board of Directors for the College. She was elected to Greenville City Council in 1999 and served 3 terms.

In addition, she had served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the founding board of Family Health Services, Greenville CIC, Downtown Greenville, Inc., Community Action Partnership, The Boys and Girls Club, and Darke County Center for the Arts.

From 1960 through 1973, she wrote a weekly column “Around the House” in the Daily Advocate and again from 1995 to recently she wrote “Back Around the House”. She had many articles and stories published in many national publications.

She was a graduate of Greenville High School. She earned her BA from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati and her M.Ed. from Wright State. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville.

She is survived by her children, Irene (Tony) Wirrig, Robert D. (Becky) Floyd, Joyce (Bill) Clopp, Ed (Chris) Floyd, Joseph Floyd, and Jean (Jerry) Anderson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her brother, David H. Gauvey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenville, with Rev. Matt Feist celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Tribute Funeral Home, Greenville Campus, Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., with prayers being offered at 4:45 P.M., and again on Wednesday, from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home.
