Missing person investigation turns into death investigation

On May 22, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM, a citizen of Greenville reported Finn K. Sallmen, 18 years old, as a missing person. The initial investigation revealed that Mr. Sallmen is not from the Darke County area and that he had been staying in a wooded area near the Shawnee Prairie Preserve which is the last known area where the citizen had contact with Mr. Sallmen. Investigators and from the Greenville Police Department and Darke County Sheriff’s Office conducted searches of the area on May 23rd and 24th to no avail.

On the morning of May 25th, 2024, officers and investigators from the Greenville Police Department, Darke County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit conducted a comprehensive search of the Shawnee Prairie Preserve area. During the search a deceased person was located, and later positively identified as Finn K. Sallmen. The incident remains under investigation by the Greenville Police Department, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office.
