Nancy Wilson Schoening age 95, long-time Piqua resident, passed away Sunday, December 26th at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
Nancy was born July 17, 1926, in Dayton to the late Henry & Ruth (Hussey) Wilson. Nancy was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Schoening on March 16, 2013, whom she married August 11, 1945; and sisters, Ruth Wilson Bobier and Susan Wilson Ladd.
Nancy was an accomplished seamstress and artist, a superb cook known especially for her potato salad and pies, a genuine green-thumb gardener who loved her roses and true animal lover who often advocated for mistreated animals. Nancy greatly enjoyed art, theatre and music and ensured that her children were introduced to all of these starting at an early age. For many years, Nancy was a trainer and breeder of many quality Standardbred race horses, a regular at the Miami, Shelby and Darke County Fair Racetracks, along with her Uncle Tom Hussey who introduced her to the sport.
She is survived by children: Andrew (Pam), Waterville, Maine; Frank (Ronda) Chaney, New York, New York; Steve, Longmont, Colorado; Catherine (Bill) Patterson, Piqua; Barbie (Dudley) Hansbarger, Greenville; John (Tammy), Piqua; Ginnie, London, Kentucky; grandchildren: Ana and Jesse Fox Chaney, Justin and Jake Stephenson, Walker Schoening, Maddie Kulpa and Allie Messer, Eric Schoening, Miles Chaney, Missie Hansbarger; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Jackie McIntyre, Xenia and Wickie Arroyo, Forestville, California; brother-in-law, Kenneth Schoening, Dayton; special cousin, Nora Stang, Englewood as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Rosewood Six at the Brethren Retirement Community and EverHeart Hospice for their care and compassion for our mother.
Nancy was buried in a private family service at Beechwood Cemetery near Lockington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Resident Aid Fund at the Brethren Retirement Community or EverHeart Hospice in Greenville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.
