Norbert John Magoto, age 94 of Russia, Ohio, died at 11:30 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Elmwood of New Bremen, Ohio. He was born on November 9, 1928 to the late Henry & Ethel (Eley) Magoto.
He married Martha Huber on September 11, 1954 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Newport. She survives in Russia. He is also survived by children: Vicki Magoto, Russia, Mike & Joeliene Magoto, Cincinnati, Dan & Diane Magoto, Russia, Jane & Jim Grogean, Versailles, Ed & Sheila Magoto Newport, Randy & Ginger Magoto, Fort Loramie, son-in-law Bruce Martino, Springboro, 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brother Willard “Bill” & Lois Magoto, Versailles, brother-in-law Vernon Huber, Minster.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Ann Martino, a great grandchild, Valerie, brothers & sisters: Alma & Ferd Gehret, Emma & Joe Barhorst, Margaret & Orville Grilliot, Carl & Sarah Magoto, Clara & Don Rismiller, Robert & Mary Jane Magoto, sister-in-law Donna Huber.
He was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia Catholic War Veterans Post #661 and Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and worked for ODOT as a professional surveyor, operated his own private land surveying business , as well as being a farmer. He loved camping, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia. A burial with full military honors will follow in St. Remy Cemetery.
