Norman Joseph Schlecty, 87 of Yorkshire, Ohio, passed away on Friday April 16, 2021 at 10:32 PM at Versailles Rehab and Healthcare. Norman was born October 24, 1933 in Willowdell, Ohio the son of the late Cleo Clyde and Nellie Bernice (Christian) Schlecty. Norman served his country in the United States Air Force. Norman was a truck driver for 41 years working for 21 years at Weaver Brothers, 7 years at General Highway in Sidney, and 14 years at Central Transport retiring in 1996.
Norman was a member of St. Trinity Lutheran Church, Versailles; the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge, the Osgood American Legion, Versailles VFW, and the Versailles Eagles. Norman loved fishing, hunting for fox and coyotes, mushroom hunting, and playing cards at E & Rs.
Norman is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings and spouses: Elsie Grilliot her first husband Roy Hess, her second husband Robert Grilliot, Paul Schlecty his first wife Imogene and his second wife Juanita, Carol and Lloyd Trittschuh, Mabel and George Cain, Leona and Harold Dickey, Dale Schlecty, Ray and Marge Schlecty, and Marybel and JD Weaver his nieces and nephews: Roger Schlecty, Ted Trittschuh, Doug and Steve Dickey, Collette Stammen, and Jackie Schlecty; his son in law: Lynn Nollner.
Norman is survived by his wife: Rochelle Kay (Leichty) Schlecty of Yorkshire whom he married June 1, 1963; his children: Monica Schlecty of Yorkshire, Marsha Nollner of Yorkshire, Melissa (Bill) Bergman of Yorkshire, Craig (Sandy) Schlecty of Osgood; grandchildren: Amber (Kraig) Robinson, Robert Byers, Justin, Kristin, and Dylan (Fiancé Megan) Bergman, Brennen and Jordan Schlecty; great grandchildren: Cainan, Carissa, Cassidy, and Cyla Robinson. Layla Karamian; numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Wednesday April 21, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church 204 East Wood Street, Versailles, Ohio with Pastor Ippy Mwakabonga officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday April 20, 2021 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Veterans Military Honors will be conducted by the Versailles and Osgood Veterans Honor Guards. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
