Legislation will protect Ohio taxpayers from being forced to fund elective abortions
COLUMBUS, Ohio— Ohio Right to Life and its Director of Legislative Affairs, Emma Martinez, testified in support of Sub HB 475 in the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee. Sub HB 475 would protect Ohio taxpayers from being forced to pay for elective abortions in the state of Ohio.
“Ohioans, especially pro-life Ohioans, should not be forced to pay for abortions. Our county and city tax dollars should only be used to help women and their children,” said Emma Martinez, Director of Legislative Affairs at Ohio Right to Life. “Simply put, our public dollars should offer women in need of opportunities to have a healthy pregnancy and to raise their child in a healthy environment,” said Martinez.
Sub HB 475 would specifically prohibit counties and municipalities from using tax dollars to pay for elective abortions and other related fringe benefits. All the statewide polling clearly demonstrates that a vast majority of Ohioans on both sides of the abortion issue do not believe their tax dollars should pay for abortion.
Ohio Right to Life thanks Pro-Life State Representative Josh Williams for sponsoring this legislation and we look forward to working with him and our pro-life legislature to ensure Ohio taxpayers aren’t being forced to violate their conscience and to pay for elective abortions.
