Pauline E. Curtner, age 99 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 1:37 AM Wednesday August 18, 2021 at the Brethren Retirement Community Greenville, Ohio where she had been in declining health since July 6, 2021. Pauline was born May 25, 1922 in Cookeville, Tennessee and the daughter of the late Rutledge and Lela (Davidson) Nicholas.
She retired from Neff Lettering where she sewed letters and years on school banners that hung in gyms in many states and lettering on sports jackets. She also worked alongside her husband Denver E. Curtner as sexton of Abbottsville Cemetery. She also worked at McCalls and NCR in the Dayton area before moving to Darke County.
Pauline was a former member of the Annie Oakley Camping Club which she and her husband loved doing and traveling to Gatlinburg where they spent a month every fall until her husband passed away. She loved meeting new campers where she learned new hobbies, trading and receiving new recipes, crocheting and shopping at the Gatlinburg Outlet stores and of course enjoying her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Denver E. Curtner May 11, 1999. Also sister and brother-in-law Imogene and Don Engle; brothers and sister-in-law Carl “Red” and Norma Nicholas, Alvin Nicholas and William “Bill” Nicholas; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Dottie and Ralph Fasick, Wanda and James Campbell, Ruth Curtner, Edith and Charles Prether; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Alma Curtner.
Pauline is survived by her daughter Cindy Enicks of Arcanum, grandson Jeff and wife Mindy Enicks, great granddaughter Addison and great grandson Nicholas Enicks all of Savona, her son Tim and wife Patty Curtner of Kansas, grandson Aaron and wife Colleen Curtner of Wisconsin, granddaughter Kara and husband Kevin “KC” Miller and great granddaughter Macie all of Kansas; brothers-in-law William “Bill” Curtner and Lloyd Curtner of Greenville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday August 23, 2021 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor George Glaze officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery Arcanum, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of the services in the funeral home.
It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the Brethren Retirement Community, EverHeart Hospice of Darke County or ALS Association.
