AUGUST 1, 1948 – SEPTEMBER 14, 2023
Richard A. Bowers, age 75 of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Richmond, Indiana on August 1, 1948 he was a son to the late Charles & Marietta (Hecker) Bowers.
Richard was a graduate of Greenville High School, class of 1966. He was a proud United States Army veteran, and had served from 1969-1971. He had worked various jobs over the years in quality control, including New Idea, Union City Body Co, and GTI. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion, and attended Ansonia Church of God. Over the years, Richard enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team, camping, restoring vintage cars, and traveling to Florida in the winter. More than anything he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons; he will be truly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a still born baby boy: sister Carol Bowers.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet (Furby) Bowers, whom he married on May 11, 1968: son Stacy & Christie Bowers: daughter Rhonda & Chadwick Oler: grandchildren AJ Bowers; Tressel Bowers: sister Emily & Dean Burk: brother Jeff Bowers: as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on the family on Sunday, September 17th, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 10 AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Rufenacht presiding. Burial to follow at Greenville Union Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Greenville Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Cancer Association.
