February 7, 1936 ~ June 30, 2024 (age 88)
Schmidt, Robert L., age 88 of Arcanum, passed peacefully at his home on June 30, 2024. He was born February 7, 1936 to Charles and Ruth (Miller) Schmidt. He was raised in Little York along the Stillwater River where he learned to trap, fish, and worked on his 1934 Ford Coup.
He proudly served his country from November 1958 to November 1960 in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky as a paratrooper for the 101stAirborn Division, Screaming Eagles.
Not only did he have the love of the land as a farmer, but he was also a talented artist. In 1978 he started his own business, Tri-State Matchplate and Castings and retired in 1999 from the business but continued to farm.
He enjoyed spending time watching his great-grandson play football, his great-granddaughter at her gymnastics and he never missed a game of the Cincinnati Reds or The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Judith (Blackburn) Schmidt, his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Loretta Schmidt.
He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Schmidt of Friendswood TX, Valerie Smith of Greenville; son Rob Schmidt of Arcanum; grandchildren, Jodi Baker, Russell Travis Howe, and Matthew Maitlen; great-grandchildren, Branson Landis and Cosima Benton; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Freida Schmidt, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11:30 am at Abbottsville Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Bill Dobson. Arrangement in care of Kreitzer Funeral Home, 204 North Main Street, Arcanum, Ohio
