On July 17th, 2024, family, friends, and colleagues gathered in the city council chambers to celebrate the promotion of three of officers.
Patrol Officer Alan Smith was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Smith has been with the Greenville Police Department since 2008 and has held various assignments within the department to include defensive tactics instructor as well as Field Training Officer (FTO). Sergeant Smith will undergo training for his new role then be assigned as the midnight shift supervisor following his training.
Sergeant Joseph Monnin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Monnin has been with the Greenville Police Department since 2017 and has held various positions within the department to include Detective, Field Training Officer, Field Training Supervisor, and most recently Patrol Sergeant. Lieutenant Monnin will be assigned as the supervisor of the Operation’s Division and will be tasked with supervising the investigations and patrol sections within the agency.
Lieutenant Ryan Benge was promoted to the rank of Chief of Police. Chief Benge has been with the Greenville Police Department since 2014. Throughout Chief Benge’s tenure with the agency, he has held the assignments of Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Support Services Lieutenant, and his most recent position of Operation’s Lieutenant.
Chief Benge’s immediate goals for the department are centered around reinforcing the agency’s mission statement, which emphasizes a commitment to providing the best possible policing services to our community while providing all staff in the agency the resources they need to be successful in their careers.
