Sandra M. Duncan, 77, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
Sandy was born on September 28, 1943, in Bluffton, Indiana, to the late Earl Raymond Markley, Jr. and Elsie “Louise” (Barker) Markley.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Markley, and her sister, Nancy Simmons.
Sandy was many things to many people. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She had her strengths and weaknesses as we all do. She made the most of her life. She kept in touch with old classmates, fostered new friendships, and she built a life we all should be envious of. Sandy was a very detail oriented and organized person. She developed and honed those skills throughout her career at Corning Glass. During her 30+ year career, she attended to most office matters, including payroll, which is how she met Stan, who was a union representative who discussed payroll questions with Sandy. She checked all the boxes and Stan was smitten.
Sandy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed NASCAR races, car shows, and assisting Stan with the church Dart Ball club, earning her the nickname “Mrs. Coach”. She loved camping. They started with a tent, moved on to a pop-up camper and eventually to a class A motor home. She belonged to the Ohio Nomads Camping Club and the FMCA. She enjoyed going to Holmes County and sampling the Amish goods and foods. Sandy loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She leaves a void that will be felt by all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Stanley W. Duncan, whom she married on September 12, 1987; her daughter, Angela (Ed) Kramer of Lawrence, Kansas; stepchildren, Jerry (Diane) Duncan of Rossburg, Ohio, Mark (Anna) Duncan of Lima, Ohio, and Bryan (Rachel) Duncan of Palestine, Ohio; her grandchildren, Nathan Kramer and Rosella Kramer, Jeremy Duncan, Hannah and Juliette Duncan, Evan and Chelsea Duncan; her brothers, Ray Markley of Marion, Indiana, and David Markley of Muncie, Indiana; her sister, Jau Neanne Monroe of Bluffton, Indiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Sandy’s family will be receiving guests on Friday, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church, 202 4th Street, Greenville, Ohio.
A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the church, with Rev. Larry Duncan and Pastor Barbara Pope officiating. Burial will follow in New Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia, Ohio.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cared for her at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, the Stephanie Spielman Center, the Cancer Association of Darke County and to all the church family and friends who have supported Sandy and Stan over the years. Their kindness and compassion will always be remembered and appreciated.
