GREENVILLE- At the age of nine, Cora Schmitmeyer was the smallest of all the showers Monday in the cattle arena.
Schmitmeyer, a fourth grade student at Versailles, is in her first year of showing feeder calves. A member of the Darke County Holstein Club.
Finishing the day with a second and a sixth place in her two classes, she was not disappointed.
“This is only my first year of showing and I think I did well” said Schmitmeyer. “My dad taught me how to show a steer and I think he did it the right way.”
“Cora is a fast learner,” her dad Micheal admitted. “She picked up on it pretty quick. The hardest part was breaking the animals. The animals are a little big for her but she can handle it.
Cora said she does not play any sports.
“I live on a farm, and I want to be a farmer when I grow up.” she said.
