GREENVILLE- She might not be tall enough to get on some of the rides at the Darke County Fair but nine year old Stacie Schmitmyer stood head and shoulders above her competition during the dairy calf show Monday.
Showing four of her own, the Versailles student had two blue ribbons as well as a fourth and a fifth place ribbon.
If that wasn’t enough, she took one of her friends calf out to show as well.
“I’m very happy with everything I did today,” said the young handler. “I was happy with the fact that I was able to hold the calf when it acted up a little bit. The calf never got away from me and I was very happy about that.”
To watch Schmitmyer, one would never notice one huge thing about her;
“I like showing because it helps me get out of my fears,” Schmitmyer admitted. “Because I’m little I’m afraid I’m going to be kicked or get stepped on. Showing five helps me get over what scares me. Besides, I think it’s fun.”
Schmitmyer start showing when she was four and is a member of the 4H Holstein Club and will enter the third grade this school year.
When asked about other activities such as sports, Schmitmyer said all she really care about is her cows.
