GREENVILLE – After a hiatus from programming during the month of August, Greenville Public Library returns with a bang in September!
Regular favorites like Storytime and Movie Matinees return to their usual times. Storytime will be held each Tuesday and Wednesday at 11 a.m. for children birth to preschool age. For older kids, Lego Club will resume on Thursday, September 5 at 4:30 p.m., and will be held the first Thursday of each following month.
Teens can expect a variety of new, exciting events this fall, beginning with our YA Hangout from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 5. We’ll also be hosting a free showing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on Thursday, September 26 at 3:30 p.m. Anyone ages 10 to 18 are welcome at this event. Snacks will be provided!
Adult programming returns on Tuesday, September 3 at 11 a.m. as we welcome Ashlynn Beisner from EverHeart Hospice. This event, Hospice vs. Palliative Care: Debunking the Myths, is perfect for anyone new to the idea of hospice care and how it works. Whether you’re looking for help caring for yourself or a loved one, this informative program will show the versatility EverHeart has to offer to patients and their families. Light refreshments will be provided by EverHeart at this event.
Regular adult favorites will be held on their normal dates, leading off with Color & Chat returning on Wednesday, September 4 at 11 a.m. in the third floor conference room. Our movie series returns with a twist on the third Thursday of the month. On September 19 at 1 p.m., we’ll be holding our inaugural Classic Movie Matinee with the showing of 1942 romantic wartime drama, Casablanca. The timeless film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman has a runtime of 1 hour 42 minutes. Patrons are invited to bring their favorite movies snacks and drinks. Water will be provided.
For lovers of the great outdoors, we’ll be hosting Dragonflies of Darke and Miami Counties, led by naturalist Chad Arment. What started as a hobby, Chad will share not only his love of our local dragonfly and damselfly populations, but a vast knowledge he’s accumulated during his years of studying these amazing creatures. This program will be held on Thursday, September 12 at 1 p.m.
Local historical researcher Hannah Wiest returns on Wednesday, September 18 for her program, titled I Inherited This… Now What? Beginning at 11 a.m., Hannah will discuss how to safely handle and preserve a variety of different heirlooms, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come. She’ll also share how to use clothing to determine approximately when antique photos were taken. Those attending are welcome to bring a photo or an heirloom for specific advice.
As a reminder, Greenville Public Library will be closed Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2 for Staff Appreciation, Enrichment, and the Labor Day holiday.
