The Edison Foundation at Edison State Community College will hold its first annual Bet on the Future: A Stick Horse Derby on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. The event will be held in the Pavilion, Atrium, and Robinson Theater at the Piqua Campus from 6:30–8:30 p.m.
“The Edison Foundation’s derby event supports scholarships for students in the agriculture and veterinary technology programs,” said Edison State President Dr. Doreen Larson. “This is a derby-themed event filled with music, prizes, and the excitement of live races.”
A stick horse derby will highlight the evening’s events. Speed and skill are not required—a simple roll of the dice moves the sponsored horses around the track.
“The horse races are determined by rolling dice and moving along a short track,” Larson said. “Supporters can buy a horse, provide a jockey, or attend and bet on the races.”
Winning race bets will receive tickets for raffle prizes, including a one-year pass to all Darke County Arts events, a custom-made jewelry box, and a catered greenhouse dinner.
The event will also include music and dancing, as well as hors d’oeuvres and specialty drinks. Traditional derby-style hats and attire are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for the most creative hat and best dressed.
