Thomas Lee Mowery

March 24, 1945 — July 28, 2024

Thomas Lee Mowery, age 79 of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Mercer Health Hospital.

He was born on March 24, 1945 in Greenville to the late Robert and Pearl Mowery. 

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his son, Derrick Mowery; brother, Ted; sisters, Marilyn and Joan; mother in law, Helen Niswonger; grandson, Austin Meade; and brother in law, Lloyd Stinson. 

Those left to cherish Thomas’s memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Mowery; daughter and son in law, Tonia and Brian Meade; father in law, Junior Niswonger; grandsons, Eli Hathaway, Lane Mowery, and Kyeran Meade; great grandson, Hudson Meade; brother, Mike Mowery; sister in law, Bonnie Stinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Thomas graduated from Greenville High School. He retired from Shraders in Greenville where he worked for 33 years. Thomas was a proud member of the United States Army, serving during Vietnam and was stationed in Korea on DMZ. He was also a Helicopter Crew Chief in the Army. He was the president of Harley Owners Group of Richmond for 10 years. He had over 3 million miles of safe driving. Thomas belonged to the VFW of Greenville, where he was on the color guard. He also belonged to the Greenville Elks, American Legion, Moose, Eagles, and the AmVets. He received citizen of the year in Greenville in 2013. Thomas enjoyed riding his Harley, he did so up until he was in his early 70’s. He was known and loved for his ornery personality. Thomas was an extremely hard worker and was never afraid to take on a challenge when it came to a job. He was known for having no grey hair, even though people couldn’t believe him when he said it wasn’t colored. Thomas did not know a stranger, if you were willing to talk to him he would hold a good conversation with you. He will be missed deeply by his family. 

A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville. 

A funeral service will follow the visitaiton at the funeral home at 6:00 PM on Thursday with Pastor Eric Fee officiating.
