SEPTEMBER 27, 1935 – OCTOBER 5, 2023
Thomas Norbert Frantz, aged 88, of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 after a very short stay in Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County. Tom was born on September 27, 1935 in Frenchtown to the late Bernard and Marie (Naber) Frantz.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Evelyn (Bergman) Frantz of 65 years, daughter Lori (Kevin) Kannally of Plain City, OH and grandchildren, Brittanie Kannally of Richmond Heights, OH, Connor Kannally of Columbus, OH, and Lauren Kannally of Leesburg, VA. Tom is survived by siblings: Richard Frantz, Virginia Moorman, Virgil (and Barbara) Frantz, all of Versailles; Susan (and Paul) Ortwerth and Sarah (and Julian) Schuetz of New Mexico; Judy (and Richard) Phlipot of Florida; and sisters-in-law: Betty Frantz of Kansas, Carol Frantz of Kettering, OH, Mary Frantz of Greenville, OH, and Eileen Houser of Georgia.
Tom is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Wendy Frantz. He is also preceded in death by his brothers: Robert Frantz, James Frantz, and Bernard Frantz Jr.; sister, Ruth Ann Frantz, brothers-in-law: Carl Moorman, Edward Bergman, Alfred Bergman, James Houser, and sisters-in-law: Helen Frantz and Katy Bergman.
Tom graduated from Versailles High school in 1953 and served in the United States Army in 1956-57 and the Army Reserves through Jan. 1962. He then worked as an inspector for both the USDA and the Ohio Department of Agriculture at Hemmelgarn’s Eggs, Poultry Producers, and Weaver Brothers in Versailles. Tom also served as a part-time USPS mail carrier for several years.
Tom was a member of Holy Family Church in Frenchtown, the Versailles Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Tom enjoyed many of his adult years farming with his father and playing on bowling leagues. But over the last 25 years, his love was his daily to weekly golf outings with buddies, dinners with friends, taking care of his manicured yard, attending Connor and Lauren’s sporting events, watching Cincinnati Reds baseball and Bengals football, cheering on the OSU Buckeyes, and always rooting for the Versailles Tigers.
He was a very kind, but quiet man and was always willing to lend a hand to help. He did anything for his daughters, was very proud of his grandchildren, and will be sorely missed.
