Thompson pulls double duty at fair

GREENVILLE- Tri-Village senior Macy Thompson may be one of the busiest kids at the 2021 Darke County Fair.

On opening day, Thompson was donned in her cheer attire, representing Patriot Nation.

Sunday, Thompson was wearing jeans and a regular top as she was showing in the swine showmanship competition.

If that weren’t enough, Thompson holds a part time job at the Brethren’s Home, not to mention being a 4.0 student as she’s gearing up for collage in a year.

“It’s two totally different worlds”, said Thompson. “In the mornings when I have cheer, I’ll walk my pig in the evening and work with it then. On the days I don’t have cheer, I’ll work the pig in the morning. Working at the nursing home, along with my pig and cheer, my schedule is full. It’s difficult getting everything to balance out but it’s very rewarding when it all comes together. I have a lot of fun with everything I do and I take a lot of pride in everything also.”

A year ago, there was no cheer. Even though Thompson was able to show, it wasn’t the same.

“It was really tough not to be able to have my family here to support me,” admitted Thompson. “This is my fourth and final year of showing and I’m having fun with it. I’ll be starting school around fair time so I won’t be able to show. I just want to focus on school.”

Thompson said she wasn’t sure where she would be going to school but Wright State and IU East is on the radar, as well as the possibility of starting at a community college, and is looking to get a degree in either nursing or social work.

Thompson is the daughter of Amy Farmer and Aaron Thompson.
