Thornton Miller

Thornton Miller, 79, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully, in the house he built, surrounded by his family, at 11:55 P.M. Monday evening, November 8, 2021.

He was born on June 6, 1942, in Hazard, Kentucky, to the late Galileo and Easter (Fugate) Miller.

In addition to his parents, Thornton was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela (Miller) Emerson; his son, Robert “Bobby” Miller; his grandson, John Robert Martin; five brothers; and two sisters.

Thornton was a true outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and going to turkey shoots. He enjoyed being outside, sitting and enjoying the seasons. He and Janice loved to hop on their Harley Davidson Trike, listening to blue grass music and heading down the road. Thornton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He valued hard work and passed down that work ethic to the next generation.  He retired from Klockner Witt after over 30 years of service.

Thornton is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Janice (Smith) Miller, whom he married on December 4, 1965; his children, David (Kristy Strunk) Miller of New Madison,  and Aimee (Kenneth) Martin of Greenville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Christopher (Cerah) Dugan of New Madison, Nichole Dugan of Huber Heights, Matt (Natalie) Miller of Lewisburg, Ohio, Kenzie (Keaon) Shephard of New Madison, Allyson Martin of Ridgeville, Indiana, Kaleb, Kasey, and Alexis Martin, all of Greenville, and Willie Strunk of New Madison. Thornton also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Ayden Brubaker, Brooklynn and Vincent Turner, Bailey, and Brody Miller, Ciley and Chase Dugan, Kaison and Karter Shephard; his brothers, Dennis (Jeanie) Miller of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Ernest (Maxine) Miller of Arcanum, Ohio; his life-long friend, Bob (Darla) Patton and family of New Paris, Ohio; and his coon dog Lumber and his house dog Buddy; and countless nieces, nephew and friends.

A celebration of Thornton’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Doug Townsend officiating. Burial will follow at the Miller Family Cemetery.

The family will be receiving guests on Saturday, from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
